Good point. I don't think anyone would think twice today about Outside the Rain if it hadn't been used as an opener for awhile (& a semi-opener before that). Doing it live for so long raised it to mythic significance in the views of fans (well, you know what I mean). So now we all think, "What a great Stevie classic."

I don't really like Illume because there aren't enough chord changes. That doesn't lend much variety to the vocal.
It's more of a groove song.

"Everybody Finds Out" is the song that left me breathless when it was over.
She hasn't done anything like that before or since. The production was great, her vocals were right on and the lyrical content was not your typical Stevie song. Loved it.

amen. I loved OTR as a studio track, but live it is a force to be reckoned with.

exactly. that's why I picked EFO. I do think, though, that the production is perfect. I wouldn't have had that weird vocoder thing at the beginning, but otherwise, it's perfection. I love the strings, the harmonies, the vocal, the lyrics...love it.

ETA: whoops...I misread what you said. you were saying the production was good. I read it as wasn't. sorry.

I love EFO too, especially because of the strings. But, I didn't pick it because I think the lyrics, are, well...kind of stupid.

Maybe thats why I don't like them. The stanza's are fine, but the chorus is awful.

After giving this some thought- I should have added EFO to my list. I *love* everything about this song as well- especially the lyrics. And I love how she pushes the vocals up a notch at the end- great, great song.

I know!

you don't know how hard I've tried to find or make an instrumental of this song so I could do it at shows, but all those layers make it impossible.

EFO is just perfection, as is Thrown Down. Those two are on the top of my list, followed closely by Illume and RTTG. Destiny Rules is fairly high up there, especially because of the lyrics (we'll forget the repetitiveness for a second) and would have been higher had the vocal sounded a little more inspired, not like she was reading from the phone book.

I voted for Destiny Rules, but my other favorites are Thrown Down and Goodbye Baby.

This sounds like me and Empire State. I love the song, but most seem to hate it. As far as SG I don't hate the song, but it wouldn't make my favorites list. Its ok and not that bad.

I feel the same way. I like Illume, but there is no way you can say its her new GDW.

For me personally i've never seen Stevie live or heard many of her shows, yet I really adore Outside the Rain. Its one of my favorite Stevie's songs period.
