Wow - I am shocked that no one has mentioned Alanis yet.
She has got to be one of the best female songwriters out there!!! She is my fav after Stevie. Also: Tom Petty Don Henley The Eagles CNSY Neil Young James Taylor The Who The Beatles John Lennon Sarah M. Kate Bush Sade Evanescence Sheryl Crow

But, basically, from a rock/pop standpoint, not really. (everything that has come from the last 25 years in the rock/pop category, to me, is just rehash, and not what I'd call "creatively", of what came before it.) However, if you consider that Derek Trucks of the Allman Bros Band is only 27 years old, his own band, the Derek Trucks Band is one of my faves...they'd meet your criteria. So, yeah, the '60s & '70s was the peak of music for my generation (people born between 1955-1965), so it would just be natural (as opposed to Bb or B#) that music from that era would be what I'd prefer to gravitate toward.

That makes two of us. One of the worlds greatest atrocity's to music. She's just terrible.

you sure are an extremist. or so it seems in some of your posts. I'm not a HUGE Alanis fan, but she's written some great songs and is very creative, innovative and original. that alone keeps her out of the atrocity category, imo.

I really am. Certain things not so much, music yes. I can agree that she's written some decent songs, but for the most part she can't sing. I've notcied that the great majority of her recordings are her talking/ranting quickly with music in the backround. The one song I will admit to liking at one point in my life was "Precious Illusions."

I like some of Alanis's stuff, and some of it I don't. Her style is her own, and I don't have a problem with her using "speak-sing" from time to time.

![]() I haven't heard her do anything but speak-sing. But its quite possible that since I've decided I really don't like her, I haven't found something of hers that proves me wrong. |
