Your words still imply that you think we hate people of religious faith.
If that's not your intention, why bring it up at all?

Oh, please. Again, no one (including myself) ever assumed you were perfect.

You posed the inane question which theists always throw out against those who don't participate in religion- "What if you're wrong and you wake up in the afterlife? What would you say?" To which my answer was, I would be pretty pissed off.

If you choose to take my comment about Yahweh as an insult to you, so be it. I didn't create Yahweh's judgement and I don't subscribe to it, so AGAIN- that's your cross to bear.

Because I thought and still think it was a relevant point. Again, I never meant to imply that. I am sorry you took it that way. Hopefully, my clarification helped.

On edit - in my initial post I said (commentary supplied):

Quote:
Again, people just hate that other people have religion. And, on some level, I do not balme them because organized religion has oppressed people or made them feel oppressed for centuries.
which you quoted.

But, I then clarified by asking, not stating -

Quote:
Interestingly, I would like to know how many people here loathe that religion exists at all? I am not talking about money making organized religion. I am talking about the personal belief in a higher power, etc. How many people automatically smirk and have the unsupressable urge to mock that by calling naive or the believer a "fu*king idiot" while ignoring the repeated clarification by the poster. How is being that judgmental any different than the than judgemental nature assigned, incorrectly IMO, to Brandon?
I think that indicates that I was asking for comments and/or opinions into that thought process and whether it existed in this thread because the specific post I noted suggested that it did.

So, I do not think the implication was warranted. But and again, I did not mean what you say.

well, first of all, personal belief in a higher power is not the same thing as organized religion, so i think it's unfair to say that people who take issue with organized religion do so only because of the followers' belief in a higher power. as i've repeatedly stated in this thread, i am not an atheist. i do not believe in a dude upstairs calling the shots, but i do believe in an inherent connectedness of all things, so it would be silly of me to knock theists (which i believe is the term tower meant to use, rather than deist, which actually refers to a believer of the religion "deism") for holding a related belief.

organized religion is a different issue. i think it can be a dangerous thing and is often used as a weapon. however, billions of people think that christianity, judaism, islam, etc., are the path to their personal truth, and i cannot fault anyone for that. i do not think anyone is an idiot for using religion as a guide. but people who use the teachings of any holy book to scare people into abatement, or justify the subordination of one group to another? idiots.

Fixed it- got my believers in god confused with my believers in natural power.

do you want me to stand up while i clap, or can i just sit here and do it?

group-thinking scares the hell out of me, and that's why i can't be down with going to "church".
