Two problems.

1-People don't donate NOW. Look at the list of sponsors. There's not a lot of people supporting this site, now or ever. It's always been Marty and Lis that carried the burden. And this site has always been totally open to everyone, without having to "join up" to read it (like the Leg Board), or to see the pretty pictures/or listen to the demos (like 7 Wonders), etc. You could join in the Q&As without being a member of "The Ledge." This site has truly been for the fans. It's never been about egos. And yet the owners have every right to be proud of what has been accomplished here.

2-It's not about saving just The Ledge, the "board" portion of the website. It's about saving the entire Penguin site.

The owners here said it was like a "utility bill"...so a couple of hundred dollars a month for server rental. That wouldn't include acquisition costs or programming upgrades. Anybody know more?

I meant donate to purchase the site up front. (kind of like a group investment) And of course if you donate to purchase upfront, you would want to donate to keep your investment running. To me, The Ledge and Penguin are the same thing, so I just didn't mean the message board, I meant the whole site, because without the Penguin, there is no Ledge. Kind of like an investment in our fandom for anything Fleetwood Mac to keep the community going strong and still remain open to everyone.

The reason I am proud of this board is the fact that the operators did not stipulate a fee to join. I meant no disrespect to Marty and Lisa, quite the opposite. They should be very proud of The Penguin and am sad at the idea of it disappearing.

I apologize beforehand if this is a stupid question, but why all this hostility between SW and The Ledge? We´re all FM fans after all and I don´t see why there shouldn´t be room for both. Personally I like both sites and I check in everyday to see if anything new has happened, so I would be very sad to see any of them go down for good.
I´m not saying that I like or agree with everything that is posted over there (SW) OR here for that matter, but if there´s a thread or something else I don´t like I just stay away from it. I really think it´s as simple as that.
Anyway, these are just my thoughts on the subject so please don´t kill me!

"The Wizard" shut it down with as much respect and sympathy as he considers to be necessary towards the persons who were loyal members of his board for the past few months and years; and with the same amount of consideration which he has shown to Fleetwood Mac, Stevie and Lindsey fans as he has demonstrated in the past.

Is there any chance for it to start up again????? Not really fair to all the members...I really looked forward ,everyday,to reading and participating in that forum....as I do this forum. If these forums are gone it isn't fair to the Mac fandom. We appreciate the time and effort it takes to keep these forums running !!!!! It is sad to see them both go!!!!!! Thanks for explanation. Honestly, most of my hostility is toward the Board Owner/Op of 7W.
For banning me + over 40 other longtime members, supporting paid members, etc. with NO REASON, just instantly. I think those of us that got banned wish to see the board go down because of the crappy treatment we were given by "the board" (board owner). Those who were banned contributed a lot of fun and interesting info, photos, facts, etc. and were just given the boot, after being members/moderators/etc for YEARS. I am sure you can understand why that would create Negative feelings toward that place, and some (not all) of it's remaining members. Some of the remaining members have multiple user IDs (BWitches/B Witches/Michelle/Belladonna band, blah blah blah) or just LUNATICS (Mystic Owl/Funnylittledancer/Ocie/Mary/BlackInkDarkness + too many false names to write) + some other "unsavory" characters. But, there are over 1,000 members I think, so I am sure some of them are very NICE and FINE people, I still hear from a few of the "good ones" that remain, they don't understand the bannings, as the Wiz locks all threads, deletes posts, etc. to make sure the truth is NOT told.
I hope that explains, a bit, why there is hostility from some of us. Others may have different reasons, but I know that is mine.
I enjoyed the 7W board since 2005, but to be treated like that, for no reason, and now to see the Chaos there, well, it makes me glad to have a board like THIS and ThreadJackers, where the fun is REAL, and you don't have to pretend to like people for fear of getting banned, or scorned, etc. like a child.

It started long before this recent little 7W brouhaha. A couple years ago (2?) The Ledge was down with technical difficulties. Brian created 7W so people could still keep in touch & chat. Well, after The Ledge was fixed, some came back, some did not, some went to both. Since you've been to both, you're well aware that there are two very different vibes on the boards. I was at both briefly, but came back here in a hurry. People on both The Ledge and 7W started talking **** about the "other" board & their members and it became like a rivalry. " That article was posted at 7W first, you know!" Crap like that. Really dumb. People have too much time on their hands, and/or they take the internet way too seriously.
