Default Hey Ryan! Star Trek movie news!

Nimoy to reprise Spock role in Trek film

By SANDY COHEN, AP Entertainment Writer 21 minutes ago

Leonard Nimoy isn't through with Spock yet. The 76-year-old actor will don his famous pointy ears again to play the role in an upcoming "Star Trek" film due out Christmas 2008.

"This is really going to be a great movie. And I don't say things like that lightly," Nimoy told a gathering of 6,500 fans Thursday at Comic-Con, the nation's largest pop-culture convention.

He greeted the crowd with a Vulcan salute.

Nimoy was joined by the newly named young Spock, "Heroes" star Zachary Quinto, who bears an uncanny resemblance to Nimoy.

Both Spocks were introduced by the film's director and co-producer, J.J. Abrams.

"This is a series I loved as a kid," Abrams said, acknowledging that he was "more of a 'Star Wars' kid than a 'Star Trek' kid."

"This matters so much to so many people," he said. "I'm honored to be here and do this."

While the character of Captain Kirk has yet to be cast, Abrams said that William Shatner, who played the role in the original TV series, would likely also have a part in the film.

"It has to be worthy, of him and of you," Abrams told fans, adding that production is slated to begin in November.

One fan asked Nimoy what he thought of his "replacement."

"It was logical," the actor said dryly. He then closed with Spock's classic line: "Live long and prosper."

Ho ****! This one looks pretty good! I hope its not another Next Generation vehicle...

So...are they remaking Star Trek or something? Maybe a Starfleet Academy thing that was tossed around as an idea a while ago.

Because even though that could be lame as hell, it could be cool too.

I don't know how I feel about this. I want another TNG movie. Or (in my dreams) a Voyager movie. Bring Janeway out from behind her silly desk and put her back on the bridge!

But I suppose this is better than nothing.

YES. IAWTC. Or DS9. I <3 that show just as much. Both shows' endings left so much to be desired, and so much unanswered.

I was never really a fan of DS9...I always liked the TNG and VOY episodes that dealt with technology and stuff...crazy powerful ships, spatial anomalies, absurd Borg technology, etc. The "cultural" episodes usually bored me a little...and it seemed like that's all DS9 ever was.

How about a movie starring the EMH???

idk I liked all the episodes one way or another. But the Dominion War arc on DS9 was awesome. It always satisfied my inner Star Wars fan with the gigantic space battles, etc...

I still want a Voyager movie though. That story needs to finished before anything.

EVILLLLLLLLL TNG and voyager and all the other spinoffs are mock turtle!

blasphemy! 40 lashes you knave!

since Ive got quite a few books that deal with pre-star trek trivia, I'd like to see early Kirk and Spock stuff. In fact, Ive got books that deal with Zephram Cochran and the first Vulcan/Human contact. Why not go there??? I hate hate HATE DS9, Voyager and TNG. sorry.

I hope you at least have them a chance before hating them. DS9 is possibly one of the greatest shows ever made, tbh.

Random fact: The Star Trek movie w/the whales was partly filmed in the swimming pool at my high school, where I also had swimming lessons. There was a huge glass pane on a side of the pool and underground tunnel alongside it which made room for the film equipment. State of the art back in the 70s or 80s but by the 2000s everyone was bitching about it being outdated.

And I love William Shatner, don't care what anyone says. Apparently he's a real gentleman and was ALWAYS the favorite celebrity guest at Marine World - only person to brave riding the whale. Unlike Alan Thicke, who had to be repeatedly asked to stop perving on youngish girls.
ahhhhhh, a fellow Shatner Lover. That elevates you to the most discerning viewer award status. Trust me. We'll pass notes and compare autographs. or pics.........either way, the ORIGINAL series was the BEST.

omg nooooooooooo

Kirk and Spock and McCoy are awesome. But the show as a whole could be pretty tacky. That's not a good thing.

DS9 on the other hand was as hard-hitting of a drama as you can get. The characters were awesome, the story arcs were well written, and it was the most action packed series yet. It has a place in my heart forever. But then again, we're from different eras. You grew up with TOS. I grew up with TNG and DS9.

I do, but I like Voyager best. Janeway Rules. Janeway's the Queen. Bow to the queen! They ruined it for me with Enterprise, never could get into that one.
