I'm simply stating that their choice to do so ought not to be cause for you to make them feel less generous than you. Not getting that shows true "predictability." They...ok fug it..."I" enjoy sharing also. I'm taking time away from straight up enjoying the concert to snap pics eagerly to post on a msg board. Damn, I'm such an idiot. How bout the booters? Of which btw I probably own a great deal of what's out there...they all made it available for trade, w/ express consent that when it was new...it was traded for or bought WITH THEM...after the thrill is over, people then trade it amongst other people. THEY do it for something in return. MUCH DIFFERENT! Quote:
Just that phrase makes me wonder if there isn't some underlying issue.BTW...what thread has your pics? Were they pulled? After all this, I can't even say I know which ones are yours or if I had even seen them yet. I was pretty sure I thanked all so far that have shared. Perhaps I spurned you? |

OK here are my 2 cents on the posting of concert photos. I do love to take photos at the concerts that I attend. For me not only do I enjoy it but I do feel that it is an art form and I do take it pretty seriously. I feel that the photographer is in a sense an “artist” whatever they use a tiny point and shoot camera or an SLR. With that being said I like to share my photos but I do like to receive credit for them. I do try to watermark all of my photos. I really hate to ruin my photos with a big watermark over the middle of them. I try to put it on the top or bottom of the photo. With me it is about receiving proper credit. I mean I am the one paying for the concert ticket, the camera and not to mention the batteries and SD cards. I also take the time to upload them and edit some of them. It takes some time and work. I would hate to see someone snag them and put them in their Photobucket account and try to pass them off as their own. Not cool in my book! I have seen this happen, too. Yes, people who sell them on T-shirts or Ebay are not cool, either! I don’t like to be violated.
I have seen my photos used as bootleg artwork especially for some of Lindsey’s solo shows. I was credited so to me it is not a big deal. I was never asked if they could be used which is odd but to be honest I would have said OK. I am not sure if any other photographer would feel the same way, however. I just feel that is respectful to ask that person who owns the rights to that photo. I also feel that the photographer has the right to put any darn watermark that they want to on a photo. It doesn't matter what it be large, small, or pink with purple polka-dots, it is up to the photographer of that original photo. I think that people should be a little bit more considerate of the concert photographers on any of the boards. No we are not international known photographers but still remember that it’s our time, money and effort to bring you the photos. Sorry to highjack your thread Gypsy. Your photos are really nice. Thank you for sharing them with us! This reminds me that I still have some Lindsey in Foxwoods photos to post. |

Sorry I have to agree...... trading DVDs and downloading someone elses pics and selling them on ebay are two completely different things. You know if you share something you record that it is going to get traded all over..... that is pretty much a given anymore. I made a CD a long time ago of stuff I downloaded and shared it with a couple of people--and low and behold I start seeing it on peoples trading lists
Sorry I just found that amusing considering I just downloaded the stuff but whatever. And I would say the definition of a hardcore fan varies because I consider myself a pretty big fan--have loved Stevie since around '78 or '79 when I was still in grade school.....(telling my age) but I honestly don't own very many DVDs--I am all about photos and would much rather buy those than DVDs...... just my personal preference and I don't think it makes me any less of a fan. I love taking photos at concerts and I thought it was great fun to share them here for others to see--I didn't want my photos all over ebay though and followed suit of many others and watermarked them..... and then I got the snide comments about it. So like I said before...... if no one appreciates seeing them even though they have watermarks then I will just quit posting them. And that again is exactly why I didn't post mine here to begin with this time. I don't know about other venues but the rule of thumb here is that you risk getting your butt thrown out or your camera taken or your batteries taken, etc for taking pics. For some reason this last show Stevie allowed cameras so all was good--but anyways I guess that is kind of getting off the subject. I guess my point is if I am risking my butt to take photos for my enjoyment and to share here then it is my choice of whether to watermark them or not and don't expect to get ridiculed for doing so......... an innocent generous act has gotten to the point of being frowned upon--why??? I guess I am a little lost as to how this has all come about....... everyone seems to want something for nothing these days.... some people act like we owe it to them to post pics if we take any...... okay this is getting entirely too long and I'm sure I am going to get slammed so I will just end it here....... there are obviously very different opinions on the whole thing......Last edited by Glittermoondust; 06-17-2007 at 12:11 AM.. |

I too am sorry about the hijack. Hadn't even thought of that.
It's a very touchy subject for many, and all point are of interest and thought. This is a msg board. A place for fans discussion and views. All are entitled to what they think and do. I STRESS that I am most appreciative of what gets shared here or any other board for that matter. I am sad however when people seem taken advantage of or spoken out of turn should they decide different from other posters how they share their pics. Whatever...it's done. I'm mute on the subject any further. I'm down w/ sharing to those who ask and avoiding the whole "unsureness" of a board. I have no hate for any one person on board or singling out a member....was a generalization from several posts. Peace out. |

Thanks for being so polite, y'all, but don't worry about 'hijacking' this thread. I'm glad we've gotten into some really interesting conversations about concert photography, rights, etc. Good stuff.
No apologies necessary. Glad it's become a forum for dialogue. Speaking of which, anyone have good leads on how to put watermarks on your pics? I'm sure I can just do a google search, but I'd like to hear what other photographers like to use. And I think we should keep a venue list of which places are Nazis about fan photography, and which ones are lenient. I'm sure it depends on: A. The concert in question (Marilyn Manson vs. Stevie, etc.) B. The section you're in (i.e. guards up front might be stricter than if you're snapping from the side or 20 rows back) C. What mood the guards are in. I can tell you that Jones Beach and Borgata didn't give a hoot. You could stand next to a guard and snap away.

Well I know at DTE (Detroit, Clarkston) they let the performer decide..... if the performer says okay then it isn't a problem. But if they say no then they are freakin' nazis about it!! LOL!! Stevie must have agreed to cameras this last show (for the first time since I've seen her there with and without the Mac). They were also allowing pics for the Tom Petty concert..... but like I said usually Stevie says no and it is a huge hassle
I've had batteries taken away and have been told to put it away several times for other shows....... |

I think its the zillion flash tubes going off in close range is what the artist don't like.which I can't blame them.I think Stevie or any other artist don't care if there concert photos are on Sleezbay or posted online.

As for posting photos online--I don't know if she cares about that--but I know someone that tried to sell some photos on ebay and they got pulled and I heard someone from Stevie's camp also contacted this person and said no....... you don't really see "recent" photos on ebay anymore you will notice..... |

I love your pics too! I like the one from the back showing the GD shawl! And I love her~ what I'm guessing is her Rhiannon black outfit with the beige boots!! She looks great! I'm so glad the days w/ the big shoulder pads are over~ She has that classic Stevie look back like in the 70's and the pants are like a Bella Donna revival! I can't wait for next Tuesday!!!
