Well. My first college laptop was a swanky Windows XP (named Jenny). I wanted an Apple, also, partly because they're awesome and partly because they're recommended for my major (photojournalism, represent!). But I didn't want to spend that much money on one. So I spent $1000 some for the Windows laptop.

It was fine for a while, then my school announced that Vista was available as a free download from their server, so I went ahead and downloaded and installed. The first time I tried to install, it froze up at 77% or so for about 3 hours and never went further. I tried to install again (not the best idea, but in college your computer = EVERYTHING), and it just royally killed my computer. Half the stuff that should work (sound cards, etc) didn't anymore -- and Jenny was Vista-compatible (she even had a nice sticker on her declaring such). I couldn't uninstall Vista to go back to XP. It got rid of the partition of my harddrive that had the Restore software on it, and my laptop didn't come with it in CD form. So I was screwed for a few days because Jenny just started dying.

So I took out a loan from my college (they lumped it in with my financial aid) and got me a MacBook, Kianna, which was influenced by the fact that I was using software in my journalism classes that I had tried to use on Jenny but made her freak out on me (freezing, etc). It's been a little more than 3 months since I bought it, and I've never had a problem with it and I can finally run all the programs that I couldn't on Jenny.

So in short, Vista ruined my life for a few days and then I got a MacBook and my life is complete. Now back to your regularly-scheduled thread.
