Default GOP debate on MSNBC

Anyone watching the GOP presidential candidates debate? I don't think I can get through it without wretching.

Tommy Thompson just said an employer should be able to fire a gay employee if he finds homosexuality to be immoral.

Why would I watch something like this? And someone should ask Tommy Thompson if I should be able to fire a Christian because I find Christianity to be immoral.

Pretty bad. They were all playing to the conservative base. Preying on people's fears, lots of talk about protecting marriage, chest-thumping about the so-called war on terror.

Interestingly, quite a few shots against Hillary. They are starting early.

Thompson has clarified/corrected his answer to state he doesn't support workplace discrimination against gays and lesbians. I was actually very surprised to hear his answer last night because he is known for being okay on gay issues even though conservative on other issues.

I heard about that on the radio. I had no idea who the guy was, but I just assume that all Republicans/conservatives are anti-gay until they prove otherwise.

any updates on the eval or analysis on how the candidates did? On my morning commute news, the DJ said the 3 front runners played it safe and that the 2nd tier followed suit....I guess no one wants to rock the boat or have an identity at this point eh?

Thompson was governor of Wisconsin and then Secretary of Health and Human Services under Bush for 5 years. I'm not a fan of any Republican, but some of them aren't viscerally (sp?) anti-gay and Thompson has been part of that gang. A friend and former aide of his become Bush's AIDS czar for a little while. So I was shocked to hear his answer.

I would never vote for any GOP, don't get me wrong. I just thought Thompson would be the last person to bungle that question.
