I was 3 turning 4 in 1983 thank you very much.

don't feel too bad Towie...my grandmother/mother shopped the Sears catalog back when there was a Sears catalog so that all my shirts, shorts and shoes matched right down to the shade.

I went to the Us Festival in 83, when I was 19 years old, and it was an amazing experience. I still have my ticket stub!
It really was just out in middle of nowhere, and I do remember being blown away by the sound system, it was just towering over the audience in the front. I actually drove down the night before and got there at dawn in my pickup. I remember letting people jump in the back of it because they had you park in this dirt lot and then bussed us over in some old busses.
My memory is a bit foggy on the details, but I do remember they had a few spots where they had showers set up and everyone who was close enough just stood under them and headed back to the show.
I was really close and saw all the sets. It was the 80's, so it was fun to see Missing Persons, U2-who blew everyone away, and the Pretenders. It was such an eclectic lineup with Stevie & Bowie.
I was pretty close when Stevie finally came onstage but the crowd got crazy andit was really swaying and for a minute it felt as if you werent really standing on your feet, that was actually scary. Stevie was vocally on really singing the **** out of Outside the Rain, and I think it was the first performance of the Wild Heart tour.
I didnt even stay to watch Bowie. After Stevie was through I was sunburt, exhausted and done.
A great time!
Glad you enjoyed the read. Takes ya back, eh? Whowouldathunk... 25 years later, we'd be reading about it. And I never, EVER wouuldathunk my name woulda been in it... that's just a trip. I remember how many people got sunburned. I lucked out having brought lots of Coppertone. And since gauze was fashionable, I took a queue from the desert nomads of the middle east who dress in layers and wore a long sleeved gauze blouse and long gauze skirt with a brimmed hat. Drank a ton of water and used the porta-pottie once. Serious dehydration...

Where's that Holodeck? I wanna go back...

Those were oddly halcyon days- in a very ironic way for sure. So many things were blossoming and blooming, all the while everything that was great about America and culture was on the fast track to dying.

I was so freeked to go to US Festival 83. I was a huge Missing Persons fan- and Berlin, too. Looking back on it, to see U2 on the bill as some opening act is pretty funny. I remember Bono climbing the stage rigging- I thought for sure he was gonna fall and break his neck. And Chrissie Hynde at the height of her powers......

I have a question for the people who went in 1983. Were you already familiar with "Stand Back" at the time? Stevie performed on May 30th, and The Wild Heart wasn't released until June 10th, but I assume the first single was already on the radio. Was the crowd excited to hear her newest song?

I remember watching it on tv and thinking it was the coolest thing I ever saw in my life.

I also LOVE Berlin and Missing Persons -- and in Lafayette, Louisiana back then, that made me a freak

Yes, Stand Back was already being played on the radio by the time Stevie did the concert, so I had heard it.
I dont remember the crowd reaction to it, sorry!
