ok, but someone please tell me if their Pound is worth twice as much as our dollar, how is that significantly different in terms of net cost? If they earn twice as much and pay twice as much then it looks like its about the same net cost between us. If I've missed something, please let me know.

a couple posts up i posted that wiki article about median household income. according to that table, the MHI in the US in 2006 was $46,000 whereas in the UK in 2005 (i'm guessing that was the most recently available data) was $39,000. so they don't make twice as much as we do.

that's in US dollars. 95p/liter = $7.20/gallon.

because for every dollar WE earn, you earn 2. your Pound is worth $2 dollars. regardless of what you each bring home, your money is still twice as valuable as ours.

I think the problem is that you're automatically assuming since the Euro/pound is stronger, then they must certainly earn more then we do. I really doubt that the pay ratio is the same in the UK as it is here. Plus, in one of the articles you posted it shows how terribly high the gas taxes are in the UK as opposed to here. Trust me, it's not even.
