OFF WITH HIS HEAD!!! *bursts into tears*

Okay, maybe at this stage it could possibly be fake But that doesn't change what we relate the song with and how we see it. It really is a song about Stevie and Lindsey and it needs those two components to work. I'd hate to see it done any other way.

Talk to Me? No chance! Given what we've seen lately I don't think she'd be up for this at all.

And Oh God, tell me she never seriously considered the Highwayman to do live? Help.

I don't think "Silver Springs" necessarily needs Lindsey on stage to be effective any more than "Go Your Own Way" needs Stevie. Certainly the presence of each during those songs adds an interesting element of tension and drama, but they're both brilliant songs even when divorced from the on-stage "soap opera."

Exactly - I thought La Nicks did a great job on The Chain in her solo 1994 show. I think LB does a good job of it as well. Personally, I think I would be too tired of it to play it in a solo set (same for any FM hit or concert staple) -but apparently they are not.

If Stevie wants to perform SS solo this summer, so be it. As a long time fan, I can certainly decide whether I want to spend good money to watch it.

GYOW was never "about" SnL onstage. Stevie chose to capitalize on the SS drama in 97, so she made the song about FM and BN. Now, she wants to change history.

Apples and oranges. GYOW and The Chain don't need the other member(s) present to work, but Silver Springs is sort of like a little drama play they perform, and I just don't think it will work without Lindsey there. The original version of the song delivers the last part of the song filled with anger and hurt and a lot of other emotions in it, the way it always got performed on stage also. Who is she going to direct those emotions to now, her mic stand? For me it will be an anti-climax after all those wonderful performances during The Dance tour. I didn't even really want them to do it during the SYW tour, they should have left it at that after The Dance.

And if she's only doing it to 'make a statement' it's even worse. Way to ruin a song, Stevie.

I really don't know what the big deal is. SS is a song. That she's going to play live. Nobody really cares who she lets her emotions out on. They're too busy enjoying the song to notice a "soap opera." I think Lindsey could care less if she did it on her own.

^^^

I don't know - they sure do play the ending up in concert. So, if she does it solo, she will have to do something to fill that void, which I think most will see. Personally, I think she can do it as she is very talented and can do wonders on stage. I say this because she sings Landslide without LB and the crowd loves it, though many Ledgies protest it is no good without LB for essentially the same reason as SS, i.e. The emotions in The Dance performance.

Interestingly, La Nicks has said she could never play SS in her solo set because of the emotions the crowd associates with that song during The Dance performance.

I don't give a flying fig what Lindsey thinks of her doing it solo (he probably couldn't care less either), it's how we feel about her doing that.

I think the point is that many people, particularly the shippers, think SS is an ode to the LB and La Nicks love affair. I think they think that La Nicks singing it alone is offensive to that because the song, to them and many more, is so associated with the climax at the end of The Dance performance, which clearly is an ode to their past love affair when it was performed the first few times. They think the song will be flat at the ending on a solo tour without that visual, which LB and La Nicks have played up to that effect for years now. They also I think consider the song in a solo set as a sort of fukc you to the fans who think this way in general and to LB, which is ironic considering the song itself is the ultimate fukc you to LB in the first place. I do not say this with any discrepect because I, too, think the song is very associated with The Dance performace and am way curious to see how she handles it solo.

Interestingly, I think the 77 versions probably did not have her in LB's face (just an assumption on my part) and that ending is hella better IMO that the audio of The Dance version. So, I guess we'll see.

On edit -I think a few people like to demean the shippers solely for holding out SS as their relationship oriented mantra. I think that is wrong because we are all entitled to our opinons and this is a discussion board.

Nice, Jason, but you don't need to be a 'shipper' to feel that way. In many ways, yes, you are right, but what pisses me off right now is just the fukc you part, because it annoys me. And it annoys me because she herself made Silver Springs what it is today by that kick ass performance of the song back in 1997 and then now goes on saying that somehow it got to be about her and Lindsey (oh really, Stevie?) so she's going to do it solo now.

It's not even really about their relationship, past, present, existing, non-existing, whatever. I love Silver Springs to death, in whatever version it comes, but when the stars are aligned right, it's always more special. Just like I enjoy SDMHA when she performs it with Tom Petty a thousand times more than when she does it with Waddy.

I agree that it is not just shippers, which is why I said many people. If I implied only the shippers feel that way, that is not what I meant. I do think the shippers hold this song dear though and they hold it dearer than most for that reason.

Also, La Nicks said in many an interview around the time of The Dance that she made/sang the song that way on purpose, including the way she did the ending. To my knowledge, she never said suddenly people associate it with this and I have no clue why.

In the end, I think she should add a solo song in her solo set and leave SS as a FM only kind of thing. But, if she adds it, I will be curious to see how she ends it.
