Oops - I meant Dave - I have clue why I typed Bob - maybe I was channeling Welch, who LB probably hates as well (just joking)

You can cross Mason off the list too, because in one of those first SYW interviews Lindsey mentioned that Dave's Alone Together solo album was an influence on his playing when he was learning how to play lead guitar.

Also, Billy backed Lindsey for SNL in 1981 as one of the Cholos. And if I remember correctly what SteveMacD once said: Billy was Lindsey's suggestion as an additional guitarist for the TITN tour (when he was still planning to stay for the tour).

I shall duck again, because I can see the usual "it took two guitarists to replace me" jokes a-comin'. I'll just say one more thing: I don't know who's more stubborn, Lindsey himself or the people who always immediately step in to criticise him for the things he mentions over and over again. Either way, both provide some necessary comic relief once in a while.

well, at least Lindsey has enough selfcriticism to call his own introductions "the same old SCHTICK". in that red rover intro on the Asheville-boot. I laughed my head off hearing him say that.

Yeah, and the crowd still wanted to hear the same old schtick even though he was already suggesting that he skip the intro.

... and then there's the comedy of those blinded by their adoration, defending his each and every word

Come on, he's a bit of a twat sometimes. Now I don't mind that, because, who isn't? But a twat is a twat is a twat. Hmm I like that word...

It's exactly that kind of fan-behaviour that inspired me to make my last homepage*, so watch out...

Come on Mari. I defend only if I think what he does is understood in a wrong way. In my opinion ofcourse. It would not be the first time that I state that he's an anal controlfreak who thinks he's the center of the universe. But if one follows his career, must admit that the guy is loosening up at this age, without losing the character like I described. And still, today, is an artist striving for artistic renewal-with success- with an impressive inner drive. And a twat he is too.

The feeling vindicated part... I think it's funny. It certainly beats everyone in the business praising each other just because it's expected and 'the right thing to do'. A little honesty never tires. Was he being snotty? Absolutely.

That said, I am not sure if 'generic' is an insult and if it even pertains to what they did on stage. Now, I am not a music expert, but did BB and RV really play the guitar lead on the FM songs that differently from the way Lindsey played it prior to that? In the studio Lindsey might have been more daring than the post-1987 line-up, but on stage (aside from maybe stuff like Not That Funny) he didn't go way left or right of 'generic' all that much either, right?

Damn you Mari, now I've been saying TWAT for the past 30 minutes. It's even funnier when you pronounce it the Dutch way.

twat...twat...twat.
