Hopefully she does well. I am a bit disappointed. Yes, the commentary is cool...but it seems like the package was put together a little too quickly and not sure for what purpose other than quick $$$.

i'm sure that she can move 20-30K in the first week. the very first store i checked had 2 copies of the dvd/cd and like 10 of the cd alone. i bet like Timespace it will eventualy go platinum, i'm sure it will crack the top 100 or better , although edge (studio) sounds a lot better on Timespace...

does anyone remembr how the last fm greatest hits package did on the charts?

I got to Newbury Comics and they had a bunch of copies right at the front of the store for only $16.99 (CD/DVD). Great deal!

And I'm sure it debuted that high due to the fact that double-disc sets get counted as two units. This makes me wonder whether the CD/DVD is going to be counted as two discs, which would make Stevie a shoo-in for the Top 10. I know way back when that Fitty-Cent debuted at number one with one of those DVD/CD EP deals, so I wonder if this is the same situation...

Also, I'm sure Mama will debut at number one on the Billboard music video chart. I mean, what other music video titles are being released this week?

No, the charts are based on soundscan over the counter sales. Each sale is counted as one unit sold whether there's one disc or two - this determines the chart placement.

When the RIAA certifies for gold and platinum, they have other criteria they use - it's based on shipments from the manufacturer's to the stores less returns. Multi disc sets like FM, with two discs, are counted as two units sold (but only towards being certified) provided it meets the minumum running time of 100 minutes.

If this is any indication, I went on Tuesday to buy CV at FYE at the mall. Now, considering that FYE is the most expensive place to buy cds in the first place, when the guy rang me up, he was surprised that I had picked it (surprised in a good way) and had mentioned that it was the third copy he had sold that day. Now, typically the people who buy at FYE are the people looking for the NEW new music, "today's" music, so the fact that it seemed to be selling well there makes it promising.

Wal-Mart is not promoting CV more, since by Soundscan each disc sold at a Wal-Mart counts as 7 units sold (Dont ask me how they came to reach that number - but I remember it clearly from a magazine I read years ago.)

For the record, Soundscan blows...

When Joshua and I were having trouble finding more than one copy of the CD+DVD set, I actually said to him, "I hope Justin is able to find one, too," since I knew we'd be checking all the same stores.

We found one copy at Best Buy and then found another copy at Circuit City. If we had struck out at Circuit City, FYE was the next place we were going to check, since we had already been to Walmart and Target.

I went to my Wal-mart last night [friday] to see what was up. they only had 3 copies
of the cd only, and bought one, on sale for $11.98 was $13.98. on tuesday they had 7 cd's and 1 cd/dvd combo, well I guest I bought the last copy of the cd/dvd combo they had ,now they soldout on the combo. I hope this is a good sign she will have high rank on the charts.if thats the case , our girl at age 58
can mow over these new younger artists with ease.

Actually, SoundScan is alot better than the old days of reporting where you hoped to god Cletus, the record store employee, could add and subtract right. And I'm pretty sure Wal-Mart doesn't get that many counts when one is scanned. I'll ask my professor on Monday.

The record label has to pay to get it's album featured in those ads from places such as Best Buy, Target, Circuit City, Wal-Mart. Maybe Stevie's marketing team at the label decided they would spend that money somewhere else...

I'm hoping she's up towards the top on SoundScan. I am so tired of talking about American Idol rejects and Disney soundtracks every week when my professor pulls SoundScan up in class.

Aww, that's nice! Yes, I did find them, in fact there were three at FYE when I checked. The only thing that bothered me was they were already in the 'N' section instead of being with the new releases.
