I'm going to both the concerts in Boulder. The way my flights into Denver and then down to the West Coast work I'll have six days in Boulder - two days before and two after the concerts. Does anyone on the Ledge know this area and would you stay in Boulder or some other place within travelling distance? And anyone else going to these?

Well I wasn't going to go to these, but since you are and you're way cute I may reconsider ![]() Seriously though - I live about an hour from Boulder, but am somewhat new to the area, so I don't really have any suggestions for you I've heard a lot about the Pearl Street Mall or something...![]() If I have money and there are still tickets close the shows - I may go...but it's not certain at this time. |

My husband and I are going to both shows in Boulder. If you want a decent place that's the cheapest rate stay at the Best Western Golden Buff. That's where we're staying. I used to live in Boulder and we're actually moving back as soon as our house sells here in Florida so I can tell you from experience - the Golden Buff is the best hotel for the price - about $60 - $70 a night. Most of the others are over a $100 a night. The Golden Buff is about a mile's walk from the Boulder Theater.

If you are driving to Boulder for the April 16th & 17th shows, keep an eye on the weather. We have a storm moving in for today (Thurs.) & Friday. Then another storm for Monday.
If you're on the road and have internet access use www.intellicast.com and then click on US Radar...this shows you the whole United States and you can track weather. The forecasters have been wrong in the past, I personally, would rather be safe than sorry. |

Just the facts and then my opinions.
I am a 53 year old female, and I have decided that I am too old to go to a general admission concert, especially alone. Boulder was a two night show...Monday and Tuesday, (and probably the last concert on this tour for Colorado) so I decided to go. FYI -- Alcohol was served at the Boulder Theater, therefore no one under 21 was allowed. Some college kids were dismayed at this rule and were arguing with the “will call” window. I walked the 28 blocks from my motel to the theater and began standing in line at about 4:00 p.m. There was another person there before me. Her name was Kim. She was blonde, wore jeans and a cowboy hat. As time went on, it got cold and there was a mist/rain which made standing in line miserable. I didn’t have a coat. A kind gentleman (#4 in line) gave me an extra hooded sweatshirt. While waiting in line, a guitar tech came by holding 3 DVD’s he had purchased to watch in the huge motor home/tourbus which was parked around the corner. He recognized Kim, the cowgirl, and yelled "Hey! You're here!" He came up to talk to her. There were about 6 of us in line by then. We asked about the excitement of Lincoln, Nebraska. The tech said something like “We owe Lincoln a concert, so we will probably go back and pick that one up.” (Maybe Lincoln will be added for the fourth leg?) He explained the logistics of the Rococo Theater and the misrepresentations. After chatting with him about various topics (20 minutes) Neal walked up and the tech went off with him. Then food was delivered to the theater. Standing near the doors we could hear songs being practiced. He must have run through about 7-10 songs. The guy is thorough. The doors opened at 7:00 and the concert started at about 8:20. Standing near the stage was first come, first serve..then 12 rows of people, then tables with chairs (about 2 rows of tables) then more standing room. There was a seated balcony which held about 200 people. It was dark and the seats didn’t look too clean. The first night there were about 500 people, 700 the second. The first song where the whole band played (? Second Hand News) - someone was playing either too fast or too slow. This got Lindsey’s attention. He walked toward Neal and was nodding his head to the time of the music as he was playing his guitar...Neal then turned in his chair and faced the drummer and got his attention, then they all got in synch and Neal faced Lindsey, who started nodding again and then the vocal began. In the beginning, there was some interaction with the crowd...I didn’t hear what was said....but Lindsey said “Do you have your ear plugs?” So I guess there was a song request. There was a bar towards the back and directly behind the sound board. Some people were getting “dynamic”. The bar waitress came close to the stage to get drink orders. This caused pushing...there was no room for a waitress to be up there. Especially during the performance! It was so annoying! I got beers spilled on me and was kicked. Half way through the concert, I gave up my prime real estate under Lindsey’s mike. I was basically pushed away in the scramble when Lindsey came close to the front on I’m so Afraid and Big Love. If the person had a beverage in his/her hand, they dropped it on the spot, so that they could touch Lindsey! The floor was incredibly wet! I was lucky to retrieve my purse - which is what caused me to be kicked. Never bring a purse..and never put it on the floor. Lindsey mentioned (when introducing the band) that if people could drop by the St. Julien to have a drink in the bar, they could say hi to Brett... On the second night, GYOW was a blast! (I wish I had been near the stage.) It was funny to watch a guitar tech scrambling in the background, to make sure Lindsey had enough electrical cord as he was playing the guitar solo. (Remember Westbury NY?) At the end of the song, Lindsey slapped hands across the front row of people. They were loving it! He did sing Turn it On and Shut Us Down, in the finale, which was a treat. It was funny. He thanked Tucson for a great show...then paused after hearing something from back stage, and said..."Did I say Tucson? BOULDER! BOULDER!" BTW, if people want an autographed CD of UTS, the t-shirt guy is selling them for $25. One lady was complaining that hers was used and opened...(Duh, he signed it!) The t-shirt prices were down too. When he played Denver in November they were $30 and $35, now they are $20 and $25. On the final night, I went to the St. Julien hotel. Neal was the first to arrive and went to the bar. At about 11:00 Lindsey showed up with his manager. A nice Ledgie was the first to spot him and go up to him. If she wishes to reveal her name, I will let her tell you, otherwise I will protect her privacy. He smiled at her like he recognized her and nodded his head as if in agreement. It looked sweet. I did not speak to Lindsey, nor was I in the small crowd near him. I did speak to his manager (silver haired man) who was polite, but very short on words. I asked about the gifts and other items which people bring to the concerts...does Lindsey ever get to see the gifts? He said that all items are placed on Lindsey’s dressing table. The manager looked annoyed. A larger crowd was forming. He said something like “We don’t have time for this.” As I turned to look at Lindsey, I saw him talking to Kim, the cowgirl. He reached over and kissed the top of her hand. (I felt like a fat-assed housewife and thought...what am I doing here?) I looked at the manager, and then said...”I just wanted to say thanks. I apologize for infringing on the personal time. The magic is in the music and not in bugging him after the show.” He didn’t say anything...his eyes were fixed on Lindsey. I was about 11:15 p.m. and I left the St. Julien and began the 35 block walk back to the motel....the St. Julien detour made it a longer walk in the dark. Others reported that the party in the bar lasted until after 1:00 a.m. so maybe someone else knows more. I applaud you younger kids. More power to you and congratulations on your loyalty and love of this man. He is very talented. It is fun to read about your experiences and to see your photos. As for future concerts, I will toast you as I sit in the senior citizen’s section of the concert hall, and forever stay away from general admission. In short, thank you for letting me share a small part of your Ledge. |
