I'm trying to think of brilliant questions to ask Lily Tomlin...I had a bunch in my head, now that I'm writing them down and preparing for the interview (which is on MONDAY) I'm blank.

I'm quite nervous.

I'm also drinking water...yum.

Yeah..I thought I'd updated in the thread I started about it- but it's a go. Though I'm not going to believe it until she actually calls and I have her on the line.

It's going to be phone - but the dude who got me the interview says he may also be able to get me backstage - and if that happens you all can be SURE you'll hear about it

Now I'm shelving Lily work and working on today's newscasts.

you know, i'd much rather do it in person than over the phone. not only because it's cooler to meet a person in the flesh, but on the phone you really have to keep a conversation going, there's no room for any pauses or silences to gather your thoughts. i always prefer to talk to someone in person. in fact, i hate phones. there, i said it.

Well I hate phones too - but for a story that needs to roll out the day before she performs in person there was no choice. It'd be a waste to do a story after the fact as we don't do "reviews" or any of that kind of thing.

And we're radio so of course audio grabbed in person would also sound loads better - but I gotta take what I can. And I'll have a phone conversation with Lily Tomlin - and for interviews it's best to keep them going regardless of whether one is in person or on the phone - unless it's something emotional - this? Is pretty standard, and hopefully funny.

So that's why I'm hoping to get backstage, so I can meet her face to face, sans nerves of having to interview her as well. If I can't get back stage I'll probably troll around the stage door

That's true. Still, over the phone it always seems so rushed and you don't get to things you maybe would ask if you spoke to someone in person. You know, even when I have to talk to people to settle important things, like people from the tax company or the housing agency or you name it, I always go by and request to talk to someone, I hardly ever call. I really hate it, always have. I text...a lot.
