You may have misunderstood what I meant, Stefan... most likely because you, thankfully, haven't been exposed to the brouhaha that's been going on in other forums here.

I don't personally feel that Ethan's (musicman408) question was pointless. In fact, it's an interesting one.
However, other Ledgies have deemed him to be a nuisance, and won't cut him even the smallest amount of slack.

So my response wasn't in regards to the legitimacy of Ethan's question... it was directed to those people who can't manage to muster the self control to refrain from participating in the very same threads they loudly decry as "pointless."

Well, I don't blame Ethan. He can do what he want. It's just typical that asking for albumsales happens over here. Let's be fair: It's a topic that follows LB for 30 years now, and whatever the guy tries to accomplish with his art: since 1979 he fights against THAT specific expectationforce. Hell, the guy repeats the same things over and over again in interviews and tries to make music that is conquering that expectation and drives alot of businesspeople insane.

Over here, the home of his biggest fans, they just do the same. And I ask myself; how long must the man say that albumsales is NOT his main focus before people accept and go INTO the art and discuss THAT?

I only love this forum because it sets me in contact with people who provide "realtime" information and wicked downloads. And a few people inspire me with good music outside of my Macfix. I cherish that. But I cannot be found alot outside the LB-forum, simply because 90 percent is bull in my opinion.

I understood where you were coming from. I thought it was a valid question though... even if it has been asked before.
My reply truly was in response to Carrie's assertion that Ethan now has "carte blanche" to create as many "pointless threads" as he wishes.

If she, or anyone else, feels that this or any of Ethan's other threads are pointless, then they should stay away from them. It's as simple as it sounds. No one forces anyone to read a thread. Glance at the subject line and who posted it, and if it's not your cup of tea then move on to something else.

By the way, despite protestations to the contrary, I have a feeling that if this album had been a massive sales success for Lindsey, there would have been much rejoicing on this board.

Every time a favorable critical review is posted, a round of cheers goes up in praise of the journalist for seeing Lindsey's "vision," so I imagine the same would happen if the album caught on with the public, too.

I'm not saying that as if it's a bad thing, mind you.

true. 100 percent. i understand that someone percieves them as spammy and irritating though. It would be nice if moderators acknowledged that too. And Ignore doesn't work for threads. I've tried that .

Apparently so, if you think the two are in any way similar...

God, I can't believe you think Lindsey's album sales are as funny as Britney shaving her head!!!
Some fan you are.
actually Lindsey, Mick and Christine's solo sales are kind of funny... lol

Cool

My interest in knowing the "sales" is to know how many people in the world have a Lindsey album not how much money Lindsey is making. Weird to me that the only reason someone assumes another is curious is from a $$$ standpoint.

As to discussions of Lindsey other than "music" IMO Lindsey is a man not a marionette.

I have never had any difficulty when placing someone on ignore. If they are there that would mean one does not want to view...why would one look anyway? No self control, perhaps? Weird.

seriously however... i do think it's a little sad that there has not been the amount of success that stevie has had.... but I think in terms of music as a business, Stevie had the right people around her and worked very hard as well. I love Go Insane and was highly disappointed it did not get the sales that I thought it would... GI had a lot of promotion, more than OOTC in my opinion... Christine McVie self titled was on the charts forever in the summer of 1984, so I think this album may have come close to Gold, but still no where near Stevie numbers... Mick's I'm Not Me is a great album... I love this album.. and it probably sold 2 copies (me and chili bought it....

It just goes to show there is more to being an artist than just performance and artistry.. it is also a business and any musician like myself that doesn't think in terms of making money from our music is just plain ignorant and probably very skinny from lack of food.

Side Note: the guy who wrote the theme to Will and Grace...that little 20 second clip of music made millions from that being played every day 100 times a day through syndication all over the country... the scope is changing folks... music is currency as well as art

Ignore works for posts. I'd like to ignore threads. That's what I said.

ah yes the money vs success debate

I personally don't need album sales numbers to tell me whether Lindsey is successful or not. I am curious how many people have a Lindsey album in their house. Why am I curious? Because it would give me pleasure.
