I'm totally missing responses from Mari, Trackaghost, FaceOfGlass, Stefan and Danax6 on this. Hell, even Johnny Stew should react. And Strandinthewind.
What do YOU guys think of this rendition of Shut Us down?

It's gorgeous. The edgy whispering sound is gone, but he sings it beautifully nonetheless. It's not taking anything away from the song.

A couple of things though... I don't like the 'as LOOOHoooohOOOOoooooOOOhNG as I can' near the end. I don't like it when he forces his voice like that, it takes away from the subtle way he delivers the rest of the song. I hate it when he does that on Big Love also, he didn't used to do it, but as his range changes, so do those 'notes'. Ah well. Secondly, is it just me or does he miss the right note on his guitar once or twice? I'm not a music expert, so I could be wrong. Last but not least, I do know lyrics, and I couldn't help but notice how he changed 'I know that I treated you unkind, that long ago I lost my mind' to 'I know that I treated you unkind, to hide the truth I'm trying to find' and completely skips over some of the rest of the lyrics. Ofcourse, it could be just an error on his part.

He does make a few slip ups and on that big stretching chord he doesn't always press the frets firmly enough. I'd reckon that he's not rehearsed it much by this point because it's not a a terribly difficult song to play. Not particularly easy either . Guitar-wise it sounds a little "unrehearsed" but I don't really mind.

Since this video was post I've been playing this song myself so much more over the last couple of days, but I seem to have an inability to remember to the words while I'm playing so I have to sit with the lyrics infront of me so I can sing at the same time. I guess if I do it enough times it'll just stick...

Did he write the lyrics to this song? I really can't remember.

Gerald, last weekend I saw TV Smith playing 33 songs in a row and deciding what he was going to play next just on a whim. Why the heck should I care about some perfectionist tosser called Lindsey Buckingham?

Ok, just kidding.

I think this is a great rendition of SUD even though it's slower than in the studio. I'm also glad that he kept the entire solo bit (the one in the Myspace 'promo video') intact. I have no problems whatsoever with the louder vocal bits ("LOHOOONG AS I CAN"), in fact I think they make a great contrast to the otherwise whispery nature of the song. BTLH was an uplifting and rousing closer to Lindsey's church service, SUD live has a bit of that too but it's more contemplative. And fine as it is this way.

Still makes one wonder why the hell did Lindsey edit SUD for the album though. Because he wanted them all to be roughly four minutes long like the songs on SYW?

Muchas gracias to Christy for recording this!

I am positive that he edited it just because he could state that the whole record has "pointedly no lead guitar". It just got axed because of a vision. If that is the case, I accept. Who's gonna argue the vision of a visionary?

Holy cow! This is awesome. Great job capturing SUD, Christy. Thanks for sharing it!

If I may turn on my whine button - why didn't he do these two songs in Vegas?! At least one of the nights?

Oh well, might have to see him again now...

You can whine. Lindsey also lied. He said that he would do TIO on the next leg of the tour and he does it at the next show.
