But I guess I can understand it given the "dance video" craze that was the 80's
Stevie actually reshot it because she felt she looked overweight in it.
That is what I remember reading about it at the time....

Actually, I believe the director is the one who circulated that story. Somewhere I read Stevie nixed the video because it didn't fit the theme of the song and the director got pissed so he began saying she thought she was fat.

hmm, from riding a horse to walking on a treadmill. I still want to slap who ever came up with that brilliant idea of the treadmill.

But you have to admit, the Stand Back video that got released was way, way, hotter, Stevie wise. All those close ups and back bends, the intense looks into the camera....

Yes, you do have a point there. I just wish that treadmill scene was cut out.
I guess though it is classic Stevie style... arms outstretched, wind in your hair, and billowing fabric. (I am just glad they did not choose to film Stevie inside a wind tunnel )

or in front of a jet engine LOL

Yes, the treadmill is cheesy, but the Civil War version doesn't have nearly enough close ups of Stevie's face looking intense and gorgeous. Also, she is over ly clothed in the civil war version. I like it, though. I like both of them.

totally agree.

but it does make you wonder how the conversation went...

Person A: "we want stevie to look sexy and sensual.."

Person B: "yeah, yeah, i know! big fans, blow her hair back. she'll look hot!"

A: "beautiful! and lots of intense looks - right into the camera."

B: "the guys'll be going insane!!"

A: "and a little fantasy action for 'em - we'll get stevie to bend over backwards - make her look like she's in the throws of passion."

B: "dude. you're getting ME hot!"

A: "that's not all, man. listen to this. a treadmill.

B: "a teadmill?"

A: "we'll get her to walk, staring at the camera, arms flailing. on. a. treadmill."

B: "dude. i can't take anymore. i'm a mess, man. i think i need a moment."

Ho, shoot, it's been a long time since someone relayed a hilarious hypothetical scenario on here. Brilliant.
I have to submit, I think Stevie thought of the sexy backbend, and the looks into the camera. You know how she does that in videos, looks into the camera with HER EYES. <=====
I gotta go with your theory on the treadmill, though. Some coked out director was probably all "we need to see motion, we need to see her walk. She's hot when she walks. And I can't think of a better way for her hair to blow back then a treadmill"

"Let's add some cheesy non related dancers...aaaand, we've got ourselves a Stevie Nicks video!!!"

I just watched the Civil War version I have had on my computer for ages, and I do agree that the one that got released is I think more Stevie intense and memorable as a video. Looked like some pretty lame acting in the civil war version by some of the guys.

Thank you catinthedark for that. I needed a good laugh.

Yes, those eyes of hers... they totally draw you in and enchant you.
She definately knows how to work it. Even in the GDW video at Melbourne towards the end, you can tell she really is working it with her body language and yes... those eyes.

You're right. I think it was Greg Parrish (where's David O. when I need him?) who was quoted in that 'Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Stevie Nicks' book that Ethlie Ann Vare wrote back in the '80s, as saying that the record company suggested it would be better to have "a dance video for a dance song," and Stevie agreed -- so that's why the first version was scrapped. He also said that Stevie was (I'm paraphrasing) "unfairly accused of vanity there, when that wasn't the case at all."

but she is about 10-15 lbs lighter in the released Stand Back Video.
it is a subtle difference..but you can see it in her face...
