amen. doesn't she get bored doing the same stuff night after night, year after year?

The DVD is okay, I guess, it's nice to get a professional compilation of everything I already have.

Yes. I expected something new. It's been a long standing habit with Stevie and other artists to put something new on these types of collections.

"The former Fleetwood Mac singer is to release first DVD"

Okay, this really bugs me. It seems like almost every article starts out this way.
Just because FM is on hiatis right now does not mean Stevie is a former member of FM. I wish these reporters would get a clue.

Honestly, I think she doesn't want to worry about things too much. She does what she does and people still come see her. She isn't going to compromise her 'comfort zone' by messing with the setlist. Stevie's not so much into her 'music is art and let's please the diehards with something new and unexpected, for the heck of it', she could never do what Lindsey does, semi-impromptu encores every evening. She loves to perform, as long as everything goes according to her standards, not what other people might expect. I've long ago accepted that so I don't have to whine about her not mixing it up a little. Sure, it'd be nice, it'd be GREAT, but you're going to have to stop expecting lest you want to keep getting disappointed.

So again, I'm not disappointed with this upcoming release either. In fact, I'm getting more than I expected, I'm getting a DVD on top of a CD, I'm getting previously unreleased live tracks, for quite a few songs. I'm finally getting all the videos neatly wrapped with a Stevie bow and some cool extras that go along with that. A few months ago nobody would have thought it was going to be this...elaborate, for lack of a better word. Let's at least appreciate that we are getting something. Like someone else said, she could have had her retired ass planted on a beach in Hawaii somewhere, instead we are getting new things and a new tour. Would you guys all rather have we didn't get it?

I wonder if she really is working below her potential.

Frankly, Frank, sometimes our potential is dictated or overrun by our own ambition. Or lack of it. I've been saying it for years - she simply can't be bothered. For whatever reason. I'm not disappointed by any of this. It's typical. Like someone else said, her heyday was 25 years ago. It's not like she's Dylan, or Petty, or Johnny Cash. She clearly doesn't have anything new to say. And if she does, she doesn't want to say it bad enough. So she's doing the jukebox thing. It's just who she is now. It's who she's been for years. Live, anyway. Sleepwalk through 8 of the songs, wake up for 4 or 5.

It's funny, you sound just like I did a few years ago. And like Diss did when I first saw his posts. It's only downhill from there, Shaniquah.

Thumbs up

I'm actually quite pleased with "Reflections" the best of.... (If indeed this song-list is accurate.)

I guess I was hoping for new material but that was wishful thinking...

I think at this point Stevie wants to put out a definitive collection of her best songcraft (including FM material) which will secure her legacy and legend all in one release! I think it's smart and will be one of her best sellers in the long run....
Also she is throwing us fans a bone w/ the Live recordings and extra DVD video footage.

Everything was put into perspective for me when I read some of those old concert reviews from the late '70s and that interview with Richard Dashut from 1979/80, where he discussed critics' complaints that Stevie was "sleepwalking" through her performances and "seemed bored" with songs like "Dreams."

It's not at all a new complaint, and very likely a matter of taste and perception.

I'm the opposite... concert setlists mean very little to me. That's never been where my interest is. A show is a show and you play what you have to play in order to sell tickets.

Quite frankly, I would have rather she retired from the road 15 years ago, and focused only on making albums. So it's all the same to me if she's doing "Dreams" for the millionth time or if she just sang "Ooh My Love" on stage for the very first time.

I TOTALLY agree with you. I love Stevie - I'm bored. I will only go see her when she tweaks that setlist, NOT AN OVERHAUL...a tweak! I think she is performing at her potential. It is not her past potential. It is her current potential. She is not going to take big risks anymore. That is the unfortunate current reality. She has to sing in that low register to even get through a Tour now. She is older..she has lost even more range from The Dance to Say You Will Tour... I wish it were not the case..but it is! I am GRATEFUL and EXCITED to get the new CD & DVD!!! I cherish every memory I have of her when she was on top of the world..taking risks..and yes..still surprising me!
I also accept that she is who she is now and I have the option to participate or not..we'll see.

I agree..I wish she had retired from the road..it would have been of great benefit to her voice. I would say 20 yrs ago...

Assuming this is the final tracklisting, I don't understand why nothing from Street Angel is on there. Like Brian has said several times, the whole point of these releases is to increase interest in an artist's catalog. Yeah, she thinks it's not up to par blah blah blah - but it's not like it is the album Kevin Federline released last Fall.

And while I'm glad she's finally releasing live tracks, my expectation is that the CD will sound ... jarring ... with the mix of studio then live then techno, coupled with all the different eras covered. Not to mention sticking Stand Back between Landslide and HAEWAFY.

But whatever ... steam vented. Now on to other things to look forward to:

- Will there be a video for any of the "new" tracks, maybe one of the Melbourne ones? I'm thinking EO17.
- Letterman, Leno, Kimmel, Ferguson?
- SNL? (probably no way in hell, but...)
- GMA, Today, FOX Morning?
- Interviews (print and web video)?
- VH1, VH1-Classic specials? They've been playing the crap out of the Rumours documentary this month.
- Are there any May Sweeps music specials or awards shows she might appear on?
- And the most important: more "Ask Stevie?" answers?

HA!

oh, I mean ~*HA!*~

She won't answer my questions.
Not even after all this time...~~

I thought of more opportunities, though:

- The View? She already knows Rosie. And she's met Joy, even though Joy hates her.
- Ellen? I would die.
- And, say it with me people, O-P-R-A-H?

Sounds like a couple of email campaigns may be in order.

I would faint, come to, and faint again, come to and scream my head off in delight if she ever was on Oprah. My God, can you imagine?

or yes, Ellen, she could dance to Stevie's music before introducing her. Wow, that would rock.

Or better yet, on Ellen:

an entire audience of Californians & tourists (and Ellen!) twirling to Stevie's music... Oh the joy I would have watching that over and over and over.

That's it - I'm sending Ellen an email right now.
