we've had a couple of poetry threads before, but damn it, I can't find them. anyway, if you have some favorite poems that you've written or by other authors, share!
here's the last one I wrote. see, jazzy isn't always nelly fabulosity without any substance. ![]() desaturation (12/29/06) I don't remember when I first saw the spectrum but I remember the way my eyes burned when I realized there were hazy places I could go fishtails spinning into the blackest browns pinkish whites never worried of absence of color or sanity words and phrases my mind released as new colors flooded my senses swirls were morphine on my tongue and I don't remember when the message came it said you had seen the destruction of reds (will you please just take this pill?) [she refuses laughter these days] they wondered where they had gone wrong others said you had it coming and I learned shades of violet splatter I walked downtown, looking at my reflection in store windows windows full of frills for bachelorettes and poppy people I will never be sensory overload as the streams flowed in and out in and out still, beauty queens expose themselves on palettes of seafoam and cornflower I ran to the bus barn behind the school hiding my hands - languid - there I closed my eyes electromagnetic radiation was my name (please make me colorblind) [will this break me well and clean?] and to this day I still wish to lose lavendar Last edited by JazmenFlowers; 01-15-2007 at 03:12 PM.. |

^ very nice, jazzy. i like color poems.
here's my favorite poem ever: Wild Geese by Mary Oliver You do not have to be good. You do not have to walk on your knees for a hundred miles through the desert repenting. You only have to let the soft animal of your body love what it loves. Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine. Meanwhile the world goes on. Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain are moving across the landscapes, over the prairies and the deep trees, the mountains and the rivers. Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air, are heading home again. Whoever you are, no matter how lonely, the world offers itself to your imagination, calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting — over and over announcing your place in the family of things. |

I can't write poetry for beans. However, I love this poem that Patti Smith wrote upon the death of Edie Sedgwick..
oh, it isn't fair oh, it isn't fair how her emine hair turned men around she was white on white so blonde on blonde and her long long legs how i used to beg to dance with her but i never had a chance with her oh it isn't fair how her ermine hair used to swing so nice used to cut the air how all the men used to dance with her I never got a chance with her thought I really asked her down deep where you do really dream in the mind reading love I'd get inside her move and we'd turn around and turn the head of everyone in town her shaking shaking glittering bones second blonde child after brian jones oh, it isn't fair how I dreamed of her and she slept and she slept and she slept forever and I'll never dance with her no never she broke down like a baby she suffocated like a baby like a baby girl like a lady with ermine hair oh it isn't fair and I'd like to see her rise again her white white bones with baby brian jones baby brian jones like blushing baby dolls

Isn't it? I wish I wrote that. I wish I had written pretty much everything Patti Smith has.

I am a mother and grandmother so this poem is a really special one.
Children Are A Gift From God by Sandra Tolson God sent me three packages That needed special care "Take care of these tiny gifts For they are very rare." "Watch over them with all your love And let them feel your touch Take care of their every need For you are needed very much." "These gifts will grow up very fast As you soon will see Love them with all your heart And let them be what they will be." "When these gifts have fully grown Look at Heaven up above Know they exist because of God And all his precious love." |
