Default Go Pelosi!

http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/01/....ap/index.html

I like this broad! And am I the only one surprised that all these politicians & lawyers are smoking in federal government buildings? I don't know why, but I am. Never pictured them milling around outside in the halls in a smokey haze.

Quote:
Pelosi kicks butts near House floor: No smoking

WASHINGTON (AP) -- New House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is snuffing out one of Congress' enduring prerogatives, still cherished by some lawmakers -- the right to smoke near the floor of the House.

Pelosi, D-California, announced Wednesday that effective immediately, House members would no longer be able to light up in the ornate Speaker's Lobby off the House floor where lawmakers mingle during votes.

The room is often hazy with smoke, as it was Tuesday night as the House voted on anti-terror legislation; Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, often has a cigarette in hand, for example.

"The days of smoke-filled rooms in the United States Capitol are over," Pelosi said. "Medical science has unquestionably established the dangerous effects of secondhand smoke, including an increased risk of cancer and respiratory diseases. I am a firm believer that Congress should lead by example."

Smoke-filled rooms won't be gone entirely -- lawmakers will still be allowed to smoke in their own offices.

Smoking is banned in most federal buildings, and the District of Columbia recently banned smoking in public areas, as has Pelosi's home district of San Francisco and a number of other cities.

Lawmaking and Big Business should be conducted by men in smokey room with lots of scotch. Women should be serving them in bunny uniforms and giving shoulder rubs!

Well, so much for my carefree fun days of listening in on House meetings with a tasty cig dangling out the corner of my mouth.

I had no clue they were allowed to smoke in there, I just assumed not.

I'll put the uniform on, but the other is medically impossible.

Nah, I don't want to have to put a sock "down there" to fill it out.

Hey, did anyone see the article about how Gavin Newsom is close to getting free WiFi for the whole city? I'll have to dig that up, pretty cool.

Also your state is about to have universal health care courtesy of your Republican governor, which I find shocking.
Also, I think Congress is going to or already has passed the increase in the minimum wage. So the good news is all around today.

yeah, I was reading about that, that they finally figured out it would be cheaper to do that then the money they spend treating people with no healthcare.
Today in the paper it says Schwartz is going to mandate that 10% of emissions are cut by 2020. That isn't very much, is it? Sounds pretty weak, to me. They should do 10% by 2010. The fricking ice caps will be melted by 2020.
Edit: Apparently it is the "world's first global warming pollution standard for transportation fuels".
