I was kidding. I'm not a Chiffonhead, and if I am, then I'm as much a Buckhead as I'm a Chiffon one. The selection of songs is perfectly fine with me.

Yeah, I know there's people who, for instance, prefer part II over part I.

I see this as a question of formats - had there been a CD issue of Go Insane in 1984 then Lindsey would've probably put Play In The Rain there as a single track, like it's been done with the CD reissues. On vinyl because of the change of sides he wanted to split the whole thing in two parts instead of putting it all on side A or B, probably because the other side would've been a bit too short then.

I do think of Play In The Rain as one piece because on vinyl side B picks off from where side A left us, that poing-poing-poing sitar manipulation or whatever it is. I remember that Jethro Tull did a similar thing with their Thick As A Brick album which only has one piece on it - Side A fades out with a certain theme that is faded in right at the beginning of side B. People think of it as a single piece even though it says "Part 1" and "Part 2" on the vinyl labels.

Actually on my vinyl label of Go Insane it says "Play In The Rain (Continued)" on side B, not "part 2". That's my reasoning for treating it as a single piece. But if people disagree with that then we might split it in two for the survivor/knockout.

Please, Gaius, you are completely correct in the play in the rain-case. We had this discussion in the Go Insane-survivor, and we lost it. This time we'll focus on it as one track, it's meant as one also. It's an entity and Peestie, I really like to see this gem intact, instead of butchering it as different songs. On my CD, Go insane has 8 tracks and number 5 is called Play in the Rain (6:56)

Thick As A Brick! Awesome album! One 40-45 minute song, but because of vinyl it was split into 2 halves. Didn't they do they same on Oh Well when it was originally released? I thought I remembered reading it was split over the 2 sides of an LP, and I'd say it's all one song.

If it's meant as one then he could have easily switched one other song and had it as one track on either side of the album. Or if nothing else, made it into one track on the cd release.

And aren't you the one who goes on and on about the "entity" of Under The Skin? If you rave about a whole album being one entity, how come it's so terrible for these two tracks to be one entity? I don't see you pushing for the Under The Skin songs to be treated as one.

Forget the nonsense about the cd issue that I wrote above. I did do some research and found out that there are different cd issues of Go Insane. I guess the American one from 1991 (and the one that probably existed before that) had Play In The Rain as two separate tracks. However, at least in Europe they combined it into one track at one point, Gerald wrote somewhere in one of the Go Insane survivor threads that he has a 1984 cd issue from Germany that does exactly that.

Anyway, I think that since "Play In The Rain (continued)" picks up right from where "Play In The Rain" on side A of GI left off, it can all be perfectly seen as one piece. I also think there's a subtle difference between "part II" and "continued". "You And I Part I" and "You And I Part II" are clearly different pieces, but "PITR" and "PITR (continued)" are not.

One might think that splitting a track on two sides of vinyl and then asking it to be treated as one piece is weird, unusual and bizarre? Nah, it all sounds just like typical Lindsey Buckingham to me!

Hey, I was supposed to be the one who would first take the piss out of Gerald because he always speaks of Lindsey's albums like they were Beethoven's symphonies!

I don't see any problem why Play In The Rain shouldn't be treated as one track. I think the "Continued" point is a good one.

Except for Out Of The Cradle, I'd piss on any of Ludwig's symphonies to turn them in for L&O, GI, GOS or UTS.

About the raving about entities, I must say that it is sometimes abitch to be a nonnative speaker. My vocabulary doesn't reach far enough to make a difference between the entityness of UTS and the fact that one song split in two still is one song. An apple cut in half is still one apple. Hell, that even goes for a pear.

Thanks Little Nicki, you put the atmosphere right on track for this survivor. I love statements.

Anyone have any predictions about what song will win? Or any songs they think deserve to win? We should see if anyone gets it right :P

Someone's Gotta Change Your Mind seems to be awfully popular here.

so big yellow taxi makes it, but acoustic go insane does not?

imo, the contrast between versions is stark enough to warrant inclusion, especially when sardonic world is included.

If they aren't putting Play in the Rain in twice they won't put Go Insane in twice. But really, it's the same song, and has only been released under Fleetwood Mac's name. Plus, it's not like they're putting acoustic Big Love in, which is it's lifemate.
