I'd also like to give props to the 3rd Dreamgirl, Anika Noni Rose. She isn't getting a lot of attention what with Jennifermania and Beyonce and all. And her part is much smaller. But she is great. She was Caroline's daughter in my favorite musical "Caroline Or Change" and won a Tony for that outstanding performance. I believe she is from the Bay Area.

Damn, I want to see the movie again today.

I want to see it too. The tracks I have heard from the movie have been great. I never saw the stage show, but I was just looking at this performance from the Tony awards in the early 80's, and I was spellbound.

This is why I love Jennifer Holliday (the original B'Way Effie) and am biased towards the movie. I still want to see it though. Look at how skinny Loretta Devine is in the youtube vid! Wow, she was hot!

There will never be another Jennifer Holliday as Effie, but Hudson does justice to the role. I hope they get a revival of the musical going very soon.

Just so you know, I am not trying to get a debate going about the Jennifer's, but I was so blown away by that Tony awards clip, and wanted to share.
Now, if you look at the clip, imagine being that guy with Jennifer Holiday singing 2 inches from your ear—yikes!

Every thread turns into a debate.

I love the clip...thanks for posting!

P.S. Jennifer Holliday would be pleased you posted that. Apparently she is very angry that she's not getting much publicity with the release of the movie.

I can't wait to see this! For those who have seen it, what about Beyonce? How would you rate her performance?

I rate it very good. She didn't blow me away like Hudson, Murphy. But she did a great job.

Well..Beyonce was good..did not blow me away either!
What a great cast...Hudson blew the roof off!
Beyonce obviously wanted her role pumped up by adding the song "Listen"
No one will steal Jennifer's thunder!!!

"Inspirational" songs are so tacky. They are one, big ball of mushy lyrics thrown together to make 12 years olds with braces and zits feel good. Whatever. It's not real life. When do big dreams come true? Hardly ever.

I think I'm bitter.
