I just listened to "I Miss You" and I wanted to say that your voice reminds me of Michael Stipe. And that's a compliment!

If I lived anywhere near Portland, Oregon, I would have definitely dropped by. I think it sounds great.

dude...I think I love you

Not in a creepy way....but I really have enjoyed what you've posted on here...

I Miss You - I really like what you did with it It works well...and give it a fun and upbeat feel at the same time...I like that you didn't just try to replicate the original

I liked Landslide as well....your voice is beautiful...

Now off to listen to the other two....keep a'posting...

LOL...well I left my creepy love days behind about four years ago...

Well my favorite FM songs...that's a big list...Storms is at the top, Walk a Thin Line, Rhiannon (mostly because that's the song that initiated my FM love), Songbird, Over My Head....lots o' favorites....

So..have ya covered any of those? And if this has been addressed elsewhere then sorry - but are you in a band? Or do you do it solo? Do ya play around town..that kind of thing?

thank you - yes it is a compliment
there is a thread going on talkin about stevie's voice going through a portal - on mirage -
pre- that's alright and post that's alright

i think michael went through a similar portal at some point too -
though i am a fan of his i am not familiar enough to know when that exactly happened but some of his early singing had a very mumbled quality - like he was making up the words as he went (which i think in some cases he may have been )
then later on he really opened up and let his voice go -

i had read an interview of him where he said he had came to this conclusion one day that he possessed a "decent set of pipes" and he grew confident and his whole singing changed

storms - no - i have tinkered with it a little but struggled enough to put it aside for anothr day - which became much longr than a day

Walk a thin line - yes i used to do it just for kicks alone - but nothing recorded - let me see if i can remember, revive and record ya a version

Rhiannon - let me see what i can dig up on this one - i may have a live version on video from two years ago

songbird - when i was in college i used to work at the student union and i had the keys to the place and would lock it up three nights a week or so and there was a piano that was stored in the top of a three floor stairwell -
songbird was one of my fave songs to play there just cos of the whole natural reverb of the piano and voice in that stairwell and the whole feel of the song - -
but no recordings of it -

ill keep diggin -

and yes sing in a few bands
a couple i call my own
play around throughout the year in town -
then once a year in may for last 8 years or so i get extra vocalists who play in town and are fans togethr for a one night stevie/mac night -
i took last year off though -
but throughout the year our shows are peppered with mac tunes -
i mean - if you know em and love em - ya got to play em right??

Absolutely lol...every band I've been in (well it's only been two) has refused to do Mac covers lol...the closest I got one to come was The Apartment Song...and it was a blast...but sadly the one cd I had of my band is lost, I can't find it anywhere

refused to do mac covers??? - hmmm - i thought there was a law . . .

i could go the rest of my life and do only songs i have written -
and i d be dead of boredom by next year at this time - lol (ok i hope they wouldn't do me in that fast)
i love doing other peoples stuff - but only the stuff that strikes something in me - and so much of the mac stuff did/does - - and hell - why not do angel or soul drifter or why in this day and age - no one else is - lol

and booooo to the losing your only copy of your cd -
keep looking in those closets
past the shawls in those air-tight plastic vaccuum bags
past the boots . . .
past the pile of tamborines. . .
lol

aren't there any pyschic mac fans out there who can zoom on in this for her??

GREAT job Bill. You seem very talented and have a fantastic appreciation for all things Mac! Love the covers. Your niece has a great voice for 11 years old. Are you from a musically talented family?

thanks -wldhrt -
well we have always been a loud kinda family - lol
so just bursting nto song wasn't unusual around our house -
some of my earliest memories are of my dad's booming voice singing in church and my mom always having music on when doing house stuff -
and "a star is born" by babs was her fave to do laundry to
she would be down there singing queen bee for hours
lol
but im the only one who does any kind of performing - my brother is a great drummer and is learning the bass and has a killer country crooner voice -
i have coaxed my brother on stage for "blue letter" and "save me a place" one year and then another year my sister came up for "angel" - they both live 2300 miles away or else im sure i would have them as guests much more often- they wer both scared ****less when they sang at the niks/mac tribute nights -but did great -
thanks for the kind words
bill
