The Best... of 2006?
1. Album: Uhhh. "Rabbit Fur Coat" by Jenny Lewis with The Watson Twins, "Back To Detroit" by Nikki Corvette & The Stingrays, "Seal The Deal" by The Last Vegas, "Fox Confessor Brings The Flood" by Neko Case, "The Greatest" by Cat Power, "Other People's Lives" by Ray Davies, "St. Elsewhere" by Gnarls Barkley 2. Single: "Crazy" by Gnarls Barkley, "On The Radio" by Regina Spektor, "Put Your Records On" by Corinne Bailey Rae 3. Concert: The Pretenders, The Melvins, Sonic Youth, Nikki Corvette & The Stingrays, The Epoxies 4. The most overrated song/album/group of 2006? - Song: "Lips Of An Angel" by Hinder - Album: Not too sure - Group: Fall Out Boy, Panic! At The Disco, The Killers, Jet, KT Tunstall, etc, etc 5. The disappointment of 2006? I didn't see any of Little Steven's Underground Garage shows. I know, he's a prick, but there were some amazing bands on that tour. Also, the closing of CBGB, obviously. 6. The best comeback of 2006? I know this sounds biased, but I have to say The Pretenders. Chrissie's back & better than ever. Also, Ms. Nikki Corvette released her first album of all originals in over 25 years in '06, and she's as fabulous as she ever was. 7. The best new band/artist of 2006? Well, I'm going with bands that are new to me.. I listened to The Epoxies a lot, The Blue Van, The IV Thieves, and The Charms were all great too. 8. The worst opening act of 2006? The ****ing Wooden Wand. They opened for Sonic Youth. The entire front row, including myself, were rolling their eyes and yawining the whole time. The only time people cheered was when they left the stage. Also, Dale Crover did a solo thing when he opened for The Melvins. He was so wrist-slittingly boring and depressing that people started leaving and shouting "GET OFF THE STAGE." It was so disappointing because when he performed with Altamont before playing some solo stuff, he was tollerable. In fact, Altamont was amazing, so it sucked really bad. Thank god for The Melvins. 9. Your predictions in music for 2007? I dunno, but I hope the whole "scene" band trend goes away. I really, really hope that bands stop gaining popularity because of MySpace. Maybe there will be a resurgence in Britpop. & unfortunately, I know that CBGB will re-open in some tourist-y location like Las Vegas, Los Angeles, or Atlantic City. **** that ****. 10. And honorable mention to... Iggy Pop, for still being a crazy mofo after all these years.
