Default 2006 music poll (is it too early?)

I don't think it's too early, I'm seeing these in magazines and on radiosites, so let's do our own...
(still thinking about my own answers, meanwhile I'll answer Sparky's poll )

The Best... of 2006?
1. Album
2. Single
3. Concert

4. The most overrated song/album/group of 2006?
5. The disappointment of 2006?

6. The best comeback of 2006?
7. The best new band/artist of 2006?

8. The ... (fill in your own choice) of 2006? (best song

to make out to, best case of undiscovered plagiarism, best

song to play air guitar to...)

9. Your predictions in music for 2007?

10. And honorable mention to...

U2 - love 'em, but they are totally overrated...

6. The best comeback of 2006?

Lindsey! Or Bob Dylan for having his first #1 album since the mid 70s

The Best... of 2006?
1. Album - Neko Case/Fox Confessor Brings the Flood.
2. Single - "Valentine" by Delays & "Crazy" by Gnarls Barkley.
3. Concert - Sigur Ros @ Chicago Opera House. Stunning. I have never and will never see anything like it again.

4. The most overrated song/album/group of 2006? - KT Tunstall. Best Week Ever had a piece a couple weeks ago about how "Suddenly I See" has become the soundtrack for every show on television when they want to show a woman becoming LIBERATED and celebrating her own freedom & potential! I almost peed myself. I hate that album.

5. The disappointment of 2006? - The Darkness' One Way Ticket to Hell. I am an unapolegetic fan of the first Darkness album. I love it. Wanna fight about it? Let's go, etc. But the second is just good enough to be perfectly decent but with no moments of greatness or inspiration. Color me disappointed.

6. The best comeback of 2006? - Willie Nelson's Songbird. Stunning. Not that he ever went away.

7. The best new band/artist of 2006? - How about 'new to me'? Granted, most of these bands have maybe released one or two albums at most or an ep before this year, but still. Rogue Wave, MIDLAKE, Film School.

8. The ... Crack on Tape single of 2006? - Belle & Sebastian, The Blues Are Still Blue

9. Your predictions in music for 2007? - Sales will decline, people will claim there's nothing good ever released anymore, independent artists will release the best albums ever that people are too lazy to hear. Or was that last year? Or the year before? Oh well.

10. And honorable mention to... - The Pernice Brothers, for releasing another album that I love love love love love, as they do every year.

really disappointed since their lead singer, Justin Hawkins, has left the group.

2006 wasnt my favorite year in music, 2005 was so much more an enjoyable year of music for me.

Thankfully I have been supporting smaller/independent labels & their artists over the past year or so (I'm a big nut-swinger for Century Media & their stable of artists: Arch Enemy, Nevermore, Behemoth, Strapping Young Lad, Lacuna Coil, Dream Evil, Nightwish, etc.)

Yeah, I hate it. It feels like this year's Norah Jones to me, except I DUG Norah Jones a little bit and I can't handle this record. It's too Starbucks-y for me. There are about a million "chick" albums that came out this year that are just so far superior to me- Neko Case, Jenny Lewis, Jennifer O'Connor, Emily Haines, Joanna Newsom. Actually, whenever I hear a KT Tunstall song on the radio I almost always put on the Brandi Carlile CD, which is just a masterful album.

Brian- I'm not too disappointed about the Darkness. Lightning only strikes once. I did see them live supporting the first record and he was a hoot. Came out at one point wearing a spandex giraffe catsuit, complete with tail.

The Best... of 2006?

1. Album - Lindsey - UTS, Meat Loaf - Bat Out Of Hell III. A Line of Deathless Kings by My Dying Bride is supposed to be great as well, so I'm picking it up tomorrow.

2. Single - I Don't Feel Like Dancing - Scissor Sisters.

3. Concert - Carl Verheyen (awesome guitarist and songwriter) and The Cult (Best sound quality I've ever heard at a show. Blew me away. Plus the band was on top form.)

4. The most overrated song/album/group of 2006? erm... most of it? I'll go with U2 thoughs since they are always overrated. Maybe Iron Maiden as well.

5. The disappointment of 2006? No new DIO album

6. The best comeback of 2006? Lindsey is all I can think of right now.

7. The best new band/artist of 2006? I like the Raconteurs but don't have the album yet.

9. Your predictions in music for 2007? - I'll be uninterested in most of it.

10. And honorable mention to...

Ronnie James Dio and Tony Iommi for deciding to work together again as Heaven and Hell" (even though it's really Black Sabbath)

The Best... of 2006?
1. Album
Midlake's The Trials Of Van Occupanther/ Liddy B's Under The Skin/Neko Case's Fox Confessor Brings The Flood

2. Single
There hasn't been an out and out pop song like What You Waiting For, Whenever Wherever or Hey Ya! that I've loved this year but Let's Make Love And Listen To Death From Above by CSS comes close. But Rise Up With Fists!!! by Jenny Lewis is the most played song on my iTunes, so I guess I'll go with that.

3. Concert:
Bruce Springsteen and the Seeger Sessions band, at Hammersmith Apollo!

4. The most overrated song/album/group of 2006?
Arctic Monkeys and the Scissor Sisters

5. The disappointment of 2006?
Maybe the new albums from The Lemonheads and The Raconteurs or the two electric shows I saw with a rather bratty Ryan Adams (the acoustic one was excellent). But the biggest disappointment is definitely not getting to see Lindsey live.

6. The best comeback of 2006?
Tom Waits. Orphans is pretty damn awesome.

7. The best new band/artist of 2006?
Midlake and Band Of Horses

8. The best musical moment of 2006?
Seeing My Chemical Romance bottled at the Reading Festival

9. Your predictions in music for 2007?
Everyone keeps telling me about this band Bats For Lashes, so I guess them

10. And honorable mention to...
My boys The Flaming Lips. I love 'em!
