The only two Kentuckians I've heard talk at length are Louise Slaughter (now a Congresswoman representing NY) and Loretta Lynn...and those are THICK...

It's so weird to me when I hear Ledgie voices..(that sounds like some sort of mental problem)...like when I've met people from here it's always such a trip to hear them actually speak for the first time....

I dunno. I doubt it. I think it's more the principle than anything. He's so shady.

My friend quit over bad circumstances. He told her he would have a job for her as a hygienist when she graduated which would have been in a month....(she worked as an assistant for 2 years in our office, so it's not like she just fell out of the dumpster) and then 2 days later he hired someone. wtf?? and told her he never said that. ...

Anyway, this is your rant, not mine

I would bite your lip and ask nicely for a raise - a decent one, and have ready a long list of points to bring up if your request is rejected. That should hopefully initiate a cordial discussion about what you're worth - and if you don't get proper recognition then maybe start looking for work elsewhere. As long as there's no animosity you'll still get a good reference from them or else they can stuff up your jobsearch.

Anyway, I've seen your picture and I reckon you're worth a big pay raise (That's my "typical male" superficial comment for the week)
Yep if you're good and loyal you will get screwed. People who move from job to job are the ones who make money.

This is bull****. But you can't tell your boss you know and you can't threaten him that you would leave under such circumstances because it isn't professional. I would go with Strand's advice. Also, don't wear yourself out so much, ask someone else to stay, etc. Obviously he doesn't appreciate all that you do.

I am too!

I've said it before, and I'll say it again - MY KY relatives are lucky if they have 50% of their teeth left(and a percentage of those may be in a jar!)

Since you have an excellent reputation and are know to other dentists in the community, you should go into business for yourself and get paid what you're really worth.

I have to agree with this.

I've been right where you are before...almost exactly, albeit in another field.

I'd go and express your concerns in a professional manner, ask for the raise. if he says no, then start looking. but, you have to really weigh the pros and cons regarding your seniority where you are. believe me, I wish I hadn't left my last job over $5,000 a year. I was at the tip top of the totem pole. yeah, I worked my ass off and stayed late, blah blah, but I basically ran my dept. I had baby attorneys as assistants and THAT doesn't happen usually, etc. and I'd give back the $5,000 raise to be back there. now, here I sit at the low end of the pole, with no seniority.

just something to think about.

I know. I've thought about this too. But really, it would be a nice break. I've been at the top for so long, it would be nice to have someone to be able to go to when I don't know what to do..(NOT that that ever happens!!! ) But I imagine the dental world is a little different because we don't get "promotions" etc. There is really no where for me to move, except up front scheduling or something. And usually there are only two assistants at any given place. I figure if I can go to another office I can take that b*tch out in a matter of months But believe, me. I've thought about it, and I appreciate your advice. That's one of the main things holding me back. and the fact that he is helping my mother with her (extensive) dental needs.

BUT...for my update.
I walked in this morning and at 7:45 he asked me to go in the consultation room to "talk". I walked in there, and he was on the phone with his wife having and argument."honey..do you REALLY have to talk to me like that?? can you just PICK up my glasses??!!" I was thinking..."ho-ly ****" but he pulled me in there and gave me a dollar raise!!! So I didn't have to go raise hell. I AM excited, but money is not what drives me. Anyone that has had a conversation with me longer than 5 minutes knows I'm very passionate about what I do, so we'll just see. This will hold me over for a little bit
