who do we suppose has made the most money over the past 30-some odd years?

Mick
John
Christine
Lindsey
Stevie

I'm thinking Stevie, but I wouldn't be surprised by Mick.

I'd say Lindsey. At least when it comes to who still HAS the most money. Mick & Stevie put theirs up their noses (and other reputed orifices); John & Christine drank theirs (with Christine also dabbling in the naughty powder there for awhile herself). Lindsey seemed to be more fiscally conservative (and having less expensive vices) than the rest.

I believe Stevie told Rolling Stone in 1997 that Lindsey is the most financially stable of the group, because he didn't spend as excessively as she and the others did.

Overall, she probably MADE more money, but she spent what she made.

I agree, I think Stevie made the most because she has more albums and tours on her name, but Lindsey has the most. Though, with all those producer credits, isn't he likely to get paid more than the rest also?

Interesting thread!

No ideas of my own to offer, good points about who spent what and so on....

Anything to mention about Lindsey's house that he was building during the making of SYW? Does that affect this?

I think La Nicks has made the most money - I mean the Dixie Chick's cover of Landslide made her millions Plus, she has sold like 10 million more records worldwide and has toured way more than anyone else in the band. I think she spent lots of it, but I tend to think placing her wealth at over $50 million is not out of the question when you consider Lionel Ritchie has like over $100 million. I tend to think LB kept the most of it and he made more on the FM stuff he produced. I mean the man had a $20 million house for goodness sake

In the end, I think it is fair to say the poorest, probably Mick, has like $20 million and the richest - either Stevie or LB are worth way over $50 million.

Also, in all of this is the way any part of that was invested. LA property has multiplied by five in some of the ritzy areas. Plus, the stock market over the last 15 years averaged like 10+%. So, who knows.

Also, according Mick and I think a few of the members, they lost money on the Tusk tour or at least they did not make as much as they should have at the time.

Maybe they would like to adopt me

That's what I was thinking. Wouldn't he get a slightly larger cut from royalties on albums like TITN and Mirage where the rest of the band aren't credited as producers i.e. They're all credited as producers on the 1975-79 records, yes? no? I know with Tusk it was "with special thanks to Lindsey Buckingham" or whatever it says, so does that mean he gets more producer royalties? .

I think it would be Stevie, but I think Christine would be next in line. You have to remember....Its her songs that are still getting played on the radio. I can't tell you how many times I've heard You Make lovin Fun, Don't Stop, Little Lies, or Say You Love Me.

Not to mention how much Caesars payed her for her May gig.

I'm sure all 5 are pretty well off financially, with Stevie leading the pack.

According to a UK list Christine has 25 million pounds ..isn't that close to $50 million? not sure what the conversion rate is now.Mick is definately the poorest which is funny considering he is also the most venal and grasping.

Well, she's been off blow for twenty years now. So what could she possibly be spending money on now? Buddah knows it's not on new clothes!

Oh, I think Mick is worth much less than that! Remember, he's the one who was sleeping in a trailer in Lindsey's yard at one point. Considering he was pretty much penniless right before TITN, and he does not get any publishing or production royalties (The Chain and Lizard People excepted ), and he gets a smaller fee for live concerts than Mama or Papa, I think he probably is in the low single-millions, if that. John is probably wealthier, although I hear that boating can pretty much suck the last penny out of your wallet.

I suspect that Mama is the clear winner in the financial game. She is the most prolific, the most active, and by far the most commercially successful. The only thing that she does not get is the production royalties, which I am sure are quite substantial just for "Rumours" alone. But Lindsey probably has to split this with Ken Caillat and Richard Dashut. Also, Lindsey has not had nearly as many hit FM singles as the ladies. Lindsey's no slouch, but considering his relative inactivity with FM and the nonexistent commercial success of his solo career, I suspect he is probably in the 30-40 million range. Stevie is probably in the 50-75 million range. She probably made $500 just from radio airplay in the time it took me to type this!

Yes, that's close to $50 million. That list was from back in 1998. I'm sure her net worth has gone up quite a bit during those 8 years, assuming that she's a smart investor. Her properties have certainly appreciated since then. In several of her interviews 2 years ago, she was asked how rich she was. She said she "wasn't Elton John, but who the hell needs that much money".

That same list from Q Magazine also listed John & Mick. I believe John was around $5 million & Mick was around $2-3 million.

I'm sure the three writers would have made more than Mick and John.

I'd say Stevie then Lindsey then Christine simply because Stevie and Lindsey have carried on making music and Christine has pretty much retired now.

As Macfan says a UK magazine had Christine's wealth estimated at £25,000,000. But I'm sure the article also said it was difficult to arrive at an accurate figure for people who spent much of their working lives abroad. so that figure might have under-estimated her true wealth.

Christine always strikes me as being very clever with money (after all the drink and drugs excesses were over) and I expect she gets very good advice.

I imagine she's comfortably off especially as each year the UK government gives all pensioners £200 towards their fuel costs and I expect she has a free bus pass
