It was also one of those shows that should have been taken out of it's misery at least a couple of seasons earlier..... ie, Will & Grace, Roseanne, Seinfeld, Cheers, Cosby, etc., etc.

BEWARE OF THE INTRODUCTION OF A SMALL CHILD!!
Cousin Oliver... 'nuff said....
yeah, the rants got old. especially the whole show they dedicated to the clarence thomas hearings ... yawn! it just made them look bitter and whiny. in the early seasons, it was funny when dixie carter would verbally accost someone on the show, but it got to be gimmicky and unfunny, as you said.

i agree with your list of shows that should've ended earlier. will & grace sucked after HC jr joined the cast. frasier is one of the few ultra long-running shows that i really enjoyed until the last episode.

Cosby...the last season/s? were annoying - when cousin Pam was introduced - and though she was pretty cute - Olivia. The last episode does not stick out in my mind - it was pretty unremarkable if I remember correctly.

It would have been better had they blown up their house... Seriously - the Little House is my favorite show ending...I'm lame that way.

DO NOT get me started on Dallas. That show went on for about twice as long as it should have. It should've ended when Bobby died (and it had been on for about 7 or 8 seasons at that point, which is about right). The whole thing about Pam having dreamed the entire season was just...ugh.

And speaking of Pam...the way they had her exit the show was even more godawful than the "dream season." Why didn't they just have her die in the car accident instead of going through all this crap about her running away from the hospital and divorcing Bobby by mail? I think they were entertaining thoughts of recasting the character, but it was still lame.

Hmm, I thought it was really surprising and clever.

My favorites are Six Feet Under and Mary Tyler Moore.

I KNOW!! BY MAIL! Who does that? I find after about six or seven seasons for just about any show, things start to go a little downhill. There's really only so many things you can do, and I hate when they start pushing things. It's especially annoying when you actually like the show, then you have to admit to yourself that it's getting lame.

Noooo. It annoyed me. I love Newhart to death, but I still refuse to watch the ending.

Malcolm in the Middle had a pretty good finale with them expecting another child which I bet would have been another boy!!

The Golden Girls finale is my fave. 14 years later it's still a tear-jerker.

Good Times also had a decent ending. Although James had died earlier on in the series, the rest of the family finally made it out of the ghetto. J.J. hired on with a comic book company. Michael went to college and lived on campus. Keith, Thelma's husband, finally got a contract to play football. So he and pregnant Thelma got an apartment in the fancy area of Chicago and asked Florida to live with them. Willona got promoted to head-buyer at the boutique and she and Penny moved into a new apartment as well. Their new apartment just so happened to be in the same building that Keith, Thelma, and Florida moved into. So they would all still be neighbors.

I'm a sap when it comes to sitcom series finales. I still cry sometimes when I watch the last episode of Golden Girls, it's so nice to see that Dorothy was the one who ended up getting married after all the grief Blanche always gave her over not dating. I especially like when shows like Growing Pains and The Nanny have the people moving out of their trademark "house", and the room is completely empty and it's just one of the main characters reflecting on everything. Sort of cheesy, but in a good way.

Disappointing? 'Roseanne', definitely. I mean, not just the whole made-up lottery story, but Jackie a lesbian? Oh, and let's not forget the whole Mark/Darlene and Becky/David thing. A hearty WTF to that.
