Exclamation The Southern Baptists are nuts...

this article was in the newspaper this morning, thought maybe some of y'all needed a good laugh at the BS spewing from the article & the God-made BS spewing from the State Southern Baptist Convention (I added my own social commentary on this article):

"Oklahoma Southern Baptists are urging businesses, organizations and government to provide family benefits only to "traditional families" — not same-sex or unmarried couples.

The Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma, meeting Tuesday in Oklahoma City, defined a traditional family as a household headed by a husband and wife or a single parent. Leaders said homosexual and unmarried couples living together are precluded from the definition.

(Uh-oh, The poor ol' 'unmarried couples' are in trouble now, wonder how they'll react? Hmmm, maybe by not attending services on Sunday? Maybe by not putting money in the offering plate since they wont be allowed in church on Sunday? Oh wait, how could I forget, when Oklahoma passed a law last year to define marriage as only between a man & woman they worded the law to leave out those unmarried couples too...Damn, my slow brain, What was I thinking! So if you were an unmarried couple and you voted in favor of that law ya basically screwed yourself more than anyone else.)

A resolution on the matter was approved Tuesday by 1,009 representatives attending the convention's 100th annual meeting at Quail Springs Baptist Church, 14613 N May. Calling the homosexual lifestyle abhorrent, one leader said the resolution helps fight a societal assault on family values and the institution of marriage.

"In our society we know what people consider ‘family' is rapidly changing. As Christians and believers, we still believe it's not a man and a man, or a woman and a woman. Based on the word of God, that does not constitute a family," said the Rev. Rick Frie, convention resolutions committee chairman.

(Really, God said that? **** I talk to God all the time...He never replies back with his opinion. Maybe he doesnt like me or his phone is too busy and he no longer cares to answer prayers for some dimwit to "win the lottery". I guess I could talk to God LOUDLY in public so people can point and say "Look, that guy is frikkin' mental, He's talking to noone"-But I doubt even then He would answer me )

The Rev. Anthony Jordan, the convention's executive director-treasurer, said the resolution is the Baptists' way of staying true to the Scriptures.

"There has been an all-out frontal attack on traditional family. When companies accept homosexual partners, they are eroding the foundations of traditional marriage and family," he said.

(What exactly is a "frontal attack"? I am very surprised they didnt use "rear attack" since they're very homo-phobic.)

"Having said that, we have no hate for homosexuals. We love homosexuals as much as we love anyone, but we will not and cannot ignore their lifestyle as being abhorrent."

(Sounds like a contradiction there Reverend Numbnuts-"We love....BUT", yeah like noone saw that ever popular BUT coming.)

Jordan said the resolution's definition of family also precludes other lifestyles.

"We would say the same thing about living in immorality," he said, referring to common law unions.

(Nah, "living in morality" is believing in what you said preacher..."Unfortunately I do this moronic thing called thinking and I form thoughts and opinions for myself. I dont have to be trained to believe anything"-George Carlin)

Frie said single parents are considered traditional families "because we realize that today, there's a family where a mom's trying to raise kids, or a dad, whether there's been a divorce or death."

A resolution to take Baptist children out of public schools did not make it to the floor for a vote.

Like other Southern Baptist state conventions across the country, Frie said an "exit strategy" resolution calling for Southern Baptists to pull their children from public schools was submitted to the Oklahoma convention. It was not one of several resolutions approved Tuesday.

Frie said Oklahoma Southern Baptists wanted to send a different message. Instead of supporting the exit strategy proposal initially introduced at the Southern Baptist Convention's annual meeting several years ago, the committee submitted a resolution encouraging parents to be involved in their children's education in public, private or home schools.

Jordan said he was not surprised convention delegates approved the resolution.

"We do not propose an exit strategy because we believe we still have an opportunity to be ‘salt and light' in the public school system and we believe there are many public school systems across Oklahoma that are doing a good job," he said.

Jordan also said there are many good teachers and administrators committed to working within the public schools.

(What the hell is with the religatarded right and this exit strategy crap?)

With a thread title like that, how could I NOT see what this was about??

It will be a better place when groups like this get out of others beezwax and pay attention to their own "stuff".
When they throw out concepts like this and protest with such vengence about the latest whatever.... they only end up pointing out their own shortcomings.
They don't seem to "get it"....

I can't believe how threatened some people are by gay marriage. A couple getting married is no assault on anything. God also failed to tell me it's abhorrent. I guess I'm not on His call list.

I'd like to think that God is on the "do not call" list.

I had to do something with it! They're not biodegradable, so I felt bad just throwing it out...

But, in all reality, that picture is pretty much life-size if your monitor is 800x600 resolution. ( ... read between the lines ... )

How ironic...Just the other day, I was urging that religious organizations lose their tax exempt status whenever they become politically involved.
