I am Pre-Law and about to graduate in June. Hopefully, some insight into the field will help me in any decisions I have to make soon!
1) Where did you go to law school? 2) What law (field) were you studying at the time? 3) What law (field) did you end up in? 4) What exactly do you do now? I hopefully am not getting too personal, I just want to know what other law fields you guys are in, etc....

I was wait-listed for McGeorge, and accepted Golden Gate Law School.
The first year is a general introduction into law, you dont specialize until later on. many students dont make it past the first year so, classes dont narrow until you get upper level. My preference was for environmental law, I have a pretty good grasp of the issues there. However, life experience since then have given me a pretty good education in Family Law. Gad, what a demoralizing experience THAT is (as a party to a case that is...) I didnt graduate, my daughter got involved with some gangs (Nortenos for any of you Bay Area savvy types, you know how nasty they are!) and ran away from home and I didnt see her for two weeks and was frantic. I couldnt concentrate on my studies, (I couldnt even sleep at night) and the Dean told me to go ahead and withdraw. I could go back at some future point, but Im getting older and I have a different life now with a new child so, its not in the cards. Im still a Paralegal, so there's that I guess... |

1) Where did you go to law school?
- didn't go to law school. I was a month from it and dropped out. I got an English degree instead and with 6 years of legal experience jumped in as a paralegal in mass tort. 2) What law (field) were you studying at the time? - see above 3) What law (field) did you end up in? - mass tort/products liability 4) What exactly do you do now? - paralegal in products liability I feel like I told you absolutely nothing. if you have some more specific questions, let me know. |

1) Where did you go to law school?
I went to law school at Widener University School of Law in Harrisburg, PA. 2) What law (field) were you studying at the time? Anything relevant to help me pass the PA Bar!! In our curriculum, we had very few electives. The electives I did choose were Capital Punishment and Family Law. 3) What law (field) did you end up in? I practiced insurance defense law and family law at the first firm that I worked for out of law school. When I moved to a smaller firm, my practice area was only family law. 4) What exactly do you do now? I have not practiced law for a year because I made the transition in to legal education. I am the director of the paralegal/legal assistant program in State College, PA. To me, teaching about the law is much more preferable to practicing it. I was so burnt out dealing with family law - it was all consuming and I had nothing left for me - I needed the change. Looking back now, I would have focused my practice is a different direction - maybe Real Estate law or Wills and Estate law. Something much less emotional!!
