Default Favorite albums/songs of the year

What are yours?

My favorite album is "Out of the Ashes" by Jessi Colter and favorite song is "Purple Rain" by Etta James.

Rosanne Cash 's Black Cadillac is awesome .Carnavas by The Silersun Pickups is too ,as well as the over the top but highly listenable bombast of My Chemical Romances's The Black Parade.Under the Skin is very good and the Dixie Chick's Taking the Long Way should have sold better .I guess they paid the price for continuing to tell the truth.

I didn't realize anything new has come out.
Lately, I've been listening to ol' classics like Fleetwood Mac, Genesis, The Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, etc....

I think the most recent stuff in my rotation now is a couple of years old releases by Bekka Bramlett, Bonnie Bramlett, Billy Burnette....
(is there some reason they all have to have double "B" initials??)

We're talking albums that came out this year, right? 'Cause then I'd have to say Fundamental by the Pet Shop Boys. I couldn't even begin to list a favorite song, or I'd have a pretty long list.

I adore Emmylou but IMO this album is not up to the incredibly high standard of the trilogy of Wrecking Ball. Stumble into Grace and Red Dirt Girl ..but I guess for that matter very little is.

Damn, I was gonna make this same thread

Anyway, my top 5 releases of 2006 are as follows:

1. I'm Not Dead - Pink
2. All the Roadrunning - Mark Knopfler and Emmylou Harris
3. Under the Skin - Lindsey Buckingham
4. Goodbye Alice In Wonderland - Jewel
5. Highway Companion - Tom Petty

There are a few more that I loved, I just can't think of them at the moment

am i the only one dissapointed with the album? i really dug when you were young and then heard the rest of album in advance and wasn't too keen on it -- not sure why.

cat, going to have to agree with you -- tilly's album is so incredibly innovative and fresh. i love it. imogen delivered another winner with i, megaphone. speaking of imogen, have you heard this?

it's SO cool, eh? i saw them on letterman last week - i was sitting in the other room, and after listening for about a minute finally got up and went in to watch. they were THAT good. then i immediately went to itunes and downloaded "bad education." the next day, i downloaded the entire album. innovative and fresh is an understatement! so glad others know and love them!

how great is that? where did you hear of that group? (don't tell me - you're in it? i will bow down if you are) thanks for the link. "hide and seek" is one of my favourite imogen tunes (it was the song that started it all for me) - and the best thing? i'm going to see her this wednesday night! i saw her in may - and she's already back for another sold out show.

i get what you're saying, but imo you can't really make an apples-to-apples comparison, since this is a collaboration. on the whole, i'd rather listen to RDG than ATR, but it's still a phenomenal album & my favorite from this year.
