^^

yeah a good friend of mine is going through an awful time, and he was so desperate that he went to see a priest. Well it turns out this priest is also a professional psychiatrist...my friend was not happy when a large bill appeared in the mail...his insurance won't cover any of it

Anyway - I'm with ya on the insurance hate....but at the same time I'm glad I have it...I just wish it would cover things that matter.

insurance is a necessary evil for sure. i don't have it right now and am really feeling it.

i can't believe that story about your friend! surely that's unethical, as a priest and a psychiatrist!

Our health care system is so completely whacked. Millions don't have insurance, and those that do are usually underinsured. My insurance company denied an extension of visits with my therapist five weeks after my partner died. Fortunately my therapist was aggressive and fought them on it.

wow...I'm glad you had a doc who was willing to fight! And it's true - our system is broken...

The priest thing...well he's sort of been tossed out of the actual Catholic Church. He's in some branch of the Catholic Church that (God forbid) accepts anyone and everyone. He's gay and has been in a relationship with a man for the last 35 years. He was a Deacon in my church growing up - but finally they got him out of there and he started his own church...

He also started his practice apparently - but my friend didn't know it was seperate from the church (he's kind of the clueless sort). Anyway - he is an excellent counselor but sadly my friend probably can't afford to keep going if his insurance won't cover it. He's a teacher - you'd think the school's insurance would cover mental health for sure

Mental health coverage is a joke. They almost always limit it, just like PT. Um, hello? You may be pretty sure that PT can heal a shoulder after 10 visits, but how the hell can you guarantee a therapist will heal the mind in that short a time?

It's ridiculous to me, and makes me ill when I think about it.

Sorta. But it's that "calm before the storm" kind of better. I'm not exactly 100%, and I feel as if something is about to set me off. Um, I'm probably scaring everyone right now,

I think it's really good that you recognize that.... I never did and would be totally freaked out after something set me off and I reacted horribly...sigh. But glad that you're feeling a bit better - at least for now

I can be like that sometimes (not being able to recognize it). But usually I can sense it... And that's sometimes worse than anything! You start waiting for it to happen, and it's a little frustrating.

You have to get a biological diagnosis for ongoing care as opposed to a situational or environmental problem.

I know what you mean about online friends, though. They're basically all I have now, as pathetic as that might sound. I'll PM ya if I need anything.

Yes! I'm just learning that some people just don't think. I'm a thinker and always have been so its a foreign concept to me. I guess I have to limit my time with non-thinkers cuz they seriously make me nuts. I can't even help it.

I had to cut ties with a lot of people which still has left a void where I want new friends! I think alot of people can relate to that in this modern cut off kind of society we live in. It is hard to connect and have a sense of community when you work so hard and everyone is so wary of strangers.
