Rumours Lineup: Mick, John, Lindsey, Christine, Stevie and Bob Welch?

My two favorite lineups of Fleetwood Mac are the Bob Welch and Rumours era's. I started thinking about how it would have been if Bob was still in the band when Stevie and Lindsey joined. I am curious about what some of you think? Do you think it could have worked? or it would have been a disaster?

Personally, it would have been interesting to see how this line up would have worked out. Christine, Lindsey, Bob and Stevie have different styles that I highly enjoy. At first I was thinking it might have been an overload with so many singer-songwriters in the band but then I realized the BTM and Time era's had about that many singer-songwriters. What are your opinions on this?

I don't think Lindsey would've stayed long, if there had been that many writers.
I think the output might've been more interesting, though.

I think it would have got a bit crowded with 4 songwriters.

Each one would only have had say 3 songs on a single album so either they would have had to make more albums or make double albums.

given the rate at which they work neither seems possible.

the music might have been intetesting though

Now that could be possible, since more songs enter in one CD. However the Lindsey-Bob chemistry in one band could be really hard, I guess. Collaborations may be cool.. but permanent members coexisting.. and fighting to be the leader.. humm..

I don't think that Lindsey would have ever considered joining the Mac, if they had already had a guitarist like Bob Welch. Therefore, Stevie wouldn't have been asked either. Therefore, they would have just had Bob, and it would have stayed the same, pre-Rumours lineup of the early 1970s.

I think the music would have been really good if they could have made it work. But now that I think about it, Bob and Lindsey were pretty dominant figures in FM during their eras. To have two of them in the same band would have been too much.

Yeah, but I was mostly asking a "what if" he did join. Because I do agree that he probably wouldn't have. I just wanted to know if anyone would have thought that line-up could have been interesting or capable of doing some good music. After reading everyone's comments, I think the Rumours line-up was fine as it is. There was already tension in the band between the five members at times and to add Bob with Lindsey (two dominant members in their eras) would have been a lot to handle. It would have been some clashing musically.

Fleetwood Mac has been at its most succesful as a five piece with no Daves.

Well, if you really had thought hard, there IS an example of how that MIGHT have sounded. Bob's French Kiss version of "Sentimental Lady". It was produced by Lindsey. And, basically it WAS an odd incarnation of Fleetwood Mac on that track.

Gerald, there's a helluva lot of music that is INFINITELY more interesting than Tusk.

Yeah! When I read this thread I immediately thought in French kiss, that's what I posted Collaborations may be cool.. but permanent members coexisting.. , anyway it was an interesting hypotesis, interesting thread.

Not in my world, dude. And I have a huge collection totally outside of FM or any other american poprockgroups.

Tusk is the best album ever recorded by anyone.

Oh, c'mon...Tusk isn't even LINDSEY's best. Out Of The Cradle takes THAT crown (so far, anyway...let me hear that upcoming "electric album" first)

I see lots of people comparing his new work to out of the cradle as though its his best. I can't understand that, I can't really even listen to that album. I agree with the other poster that tusk is his best work but not the best album ever.
