Rachel Ray? Seriously? Wow, um, not exactly an A-lister.

Paula. Love her. I hope it's more of a time limit issue, as opposed to a diva demand.

I would think it's the assistants and people running the meet and greet that make these demands. Paula has some show on in the evening with an audience and she seems to really enjoy the people. I'd like to think she's as sweet as she is on TV. Finding out she is a mean old hag would crush me

Rachael Ray came to Minneapolis to do her $40 a day show. She went to this quirky little bar (which I love) and was a raging bitch to everyone there. Total ice queen.

Wow, that's horrible. And her whole show is about being peppy and all that. I hate phoniness.

I think she comes off totally transparent. I immediately thought that she was a huge bitch off camera, and that she tried way too hard to hide it.

For various reasons I've have lots of dealings with celebrities, everyone from Z listers to the big A listers.
Generally speaking, the bigger the star, the nicer they are. Two notable exceptions are Jennifer Aniston and kylie Minogue - their nice girl images seem to be purely for the cameras and when there are 'important' people around.
(Angelina Jolie, however, is fantastic, one of the nicest celebrities I have met).

The worst attack of 'don't you know who I am' seems to strike the 'models/actresses' whose sole claim to fame is that they have slept with a famous man.
I did some voluntary work for a charity for a couple of years and we regularly invited celebrities to our events. The big names were almost always gracious and generous.
The 'model/actress' types on the other hand would put forward an absurd list of demands before they committed to attending. Though they all made big play in the media about their involvement with charity, some of them even asked us for a 'shopping allowance' if we wanted them to turn up at the event.
They had such an inflated opinion of their fame and 'talent' it was embarrassing.

I have interacted with a few celebreties in places I worked but I don't think any of them had an attittude, although a couple asked to be in closed sections of restaurants, and we granted them that. Most of the stars, or semi-stars seemed to be relieved to be treated with little fanfare, and to be allowed to slip in and out of the establishment without attention.

That's actually my favorite celeb encounter at a workplace.
He came in very quietly, and was looking around before I even noticed him, and it was a tiny store. I was playing a neville brothers cd, and he was suddenly in front of me and he held the cd in front of me (the play copy) and blurted, "do you know where I can find this?" I know that I blushed when i realized who he was, but I ended up suggesting a few similar cds, and finding that one for him, and I even got to joke with him a little, although I don't recall any of the banter. Some other customers started hovering, and he got nervous, bought the cds and bolted.
I guess he was in a manic phase, but I think it was fear of being assaulted by fans.
I saw him a few times with his son at the Golden Gate Park, and later a boyfriend of mine did a children's party (the oldest son, I think) at Robin Williams' place out in Sonoma. I talked to him again at that party (he was super shy) but I didn't mention the record store meeting.

OOOHm I forgot about an excellent "Don't you know who I am?" story. Francis ford Coppola once came to the door at the Paradise Lounge, when I worked there, and he had his arms around two young girls with him, who looked underage. I have no idea who they were, or if they were relatives, groupies, or actress hopefulls. In any case, the doorman asked for ID, and they didn't have any, and FF Coppola kept arguing, and aasking "Don't you know who I...?" and the door man wouldn't let them in. FFC made an ass of himself. It's a big deal at a bar, since you can be shut down and fined for allowing underage people in.

Interesting. I was watching her show last weekend and I totally saw a horribly forced smile. The veneer was cracked.
