Default Sen. Obama finally admits he is thinking of running

I'm very intrigued by a Barack Obama candidacy. His politics are to the right of mine, but he is one of the few Dems who inspire me when he speaks and who come across as anything close to a leader.

I think an Obama/Edwards or Edwards/Obama ticket could be pretty exciting.

Sen. Obama mulls bid for White House in 2008

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Sen. Barack Obama on Sunday said he has thought about running for president in 2008 and will give it more serious consideration after the mid-term congressional elections on November 7.

"I have thought about the possibility but I have not thought about it with the seriousness and depth that is required," the first-term Illinois Democrat said on NBC's "Meet the Press." "After November 7, I will sit down and consider it."

Obama is less than two years into his first term in the Senate. He has previously said that he planned to serve his entire six-year term, which expires in 2010. But in recent days, he has acknowledged that he has informally considered a bid for the White House.

Obama, 45, is currently promoting his new book "The Audacity of Hope: Thoughts on Reclaiming the American Dream."

Obama, who was on the cover a recent Time magazine issue with the headline "Why Barack Obama Could Be the Next President," played down his lack of experience.

"I am not sure if anyone is ready to be president before they are president," he said.

Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry, the Democrats losing candidate in the 2004 presidential election, said on Sunday he would make a decision about running again after the November 7 election.

Obama's prominence in national politics grew rapidly after delivering an address at the Democratic National Convention, where Kerry accepted the party's nomination to run against Bush.

Asked on ABC's "This Week" program how he would feel about running against Obama, Kerry said, "Whatever he wants to do. Look, this is a free country. If he thinks he's ready to run for president and wants to run and ... I've made a decision to run, then we'll go out and have a great contest. If I'm not in it, good luck to those who are."

Ordinarily I would agree with you. But the Democrats have suffered from the strategy of going with candidates whose "time has come". Perfect example is in California, where the Dem nominee for governor, Phil Angelides, is a terrible candidate and will not win. But he paid his dues, worked his way up, started as Democratic Party chair, then got elected Treasurer, waited for his time, etc.

John Kerry--example #2.

There is absolutely nobody on the list of Democrats that have been around for a long time that inspires me or that I think can beat McCain.

Why not go with someone fresh. He's perfectly qualified.

Gore, I would prefer him over a Clinton & Kerry.

A Gore/Edwards ticket would be alright for this Independent voter.

3 more weeks til the Oklahoma elections, I predict a Demo win for Governor (Brad Henry will easily be re-elected), Lt.Governor (Jari Askins) & a Repub win for US Rep. (Mary Fallin)

Hopefully someone high up in the Dem Party is a lurker on this board and reading this post. You are the type that the Dems need to win.

See, I do not agree. I think his time in politics has been relatively short and his experience on the Federal and International levels is relatively limited and that matters. I do think, however, in a little more time, he will be a contender and he certainly has the glossy image.

To about 20 percent of the voters

Seriously - that would be the death knell for the D's - regardless of what I may think of the candidates personally.
