It sucks not having power for 5 days (and counting.) It sucks throwing out tons of food because it spoiled. It sucks not being able to contact the people you love for hours because they only have a cordless phone at their house. It sucks being home alone in the dark (Mark was at work the night of the storm) watching & listening to huge trees crash down all around you, praying the giant one in front of your house doesn't come crashing through your front picture windows. It sucks knowing the there are people worse off than you & knowing there's really no way to help them. And it sucks to take a 4 day long weekend for your anniversary, planning to go to dinner & movies & other funt things, only to be stranded at home for that time.

most definitely glad you & the hubby are o.k. paula, storms like that suck, we get them here all the time in the winter, the no power & not being able to get out it awful~ the last storm we had w/ no power, the news did a story 9 months later on all the babies that were born

~ guess people found away to keep warm, & while away the time alone

They had no time for all that. They were too busy bailing out the sump pump.

I was pissed - we were so busy bailing, then so tired all the time, that we were in no mood for anything - board games, card games, sex, drinking, whatever. It sucked.

OK, so I still have no power.

They're telling me late Sunday, which would be 11 days without. I'm trying to be patient, and I'm trying not to be angry. But why are the people that lost power first getting it back LAST? Everyone I know that lost it Fri, Sat or Sun has power now, but those who lost it early Thurs eve. still don't have it.

Also, is it coincidence that the higher income neighborhoods had their power restored sooner than older, poorer ones? I usually don't think that way, but I'm honestly starting to. When asked, the National Grid spokesman said "we do out BEST to TRY not to show favoritism." WTF does that mean? You try not to? Yeah, that makes me feel better.

Oh yeah, they will do the wealthy neighborhoods first. That's where the big tax dollars come from. And they would feel entitled and squawk the loudest when their power didn't come back promptly.

I don't exactly live in a slum, but it's an older neighborhood with many elderly people & young families that nobody will listen to. Such is life.

BTW - I calculated how many buckets of water I bailed out of that damned sump. Approx 140 buckets on Thursday night alone.

Had to do it a lot more often the next few days & nights, but took turns wit mah man. So I'd say somewhere around 500 buckets.

^ Thanks. As exhausting as it was, we're lucky that our sink is only 3 feet away from the sump. Some people's are clear across on the other side of the basement - good luck with that.

BTW - now the Mayor of Buffalo is pissed & bitching that FEMA didn't come into the city to assess the conditions, they only went to the burbs. Well, Byron, you're the one who said you didn't need their assistance yet!

yeah. I know how you feel. I don't live in the ritzy part of town, but I'm not in the ghetto either. after Katrina, my neighborhood was 5 days without power. I was really lucky that I never lost power.

Got electricity last night around 9pm - that makes a total of 6 days without power (4 of those without a generator either.) I can't tell you how happy that made me.
