Heart My Grandma Passed Away

On Sunday my Grandma passed away at the age of 97. She still had her wits about her. She couldn't see and couldn't walk but she was still coherent and could tewll you stories about the good ol days. I am taking it hard mainly because my other granda who is stil alive at 76 is a bitter old woman who lost her sight and and is now in the early stages of Dementia. When my grandpa died 11 years ago my 76 year old Grandma began smoking again really heavily and did nothing but lay around and eat junk food. I tried to get her out of the house but that didn't happen very often. One thing I will miss is her stories and the way she used to bake lemon bread and doughnut holes all the time. Another kind of funny thing is that she was the oldest living relative on my dads side of the family and we used to tease her that she has to stay alive so we can win the contest of oldest living relative at our annual Denison Family Reunion every year.

I decided to go to the LB concert tomorrow night in Boston as I didn't want to be alone and I think music would be be a great morall booster.

I am going to miss her so much.

How can I help you to say goodbye
It's ok to hurt and it's ok to cry
Come let me hold you and I will try
How can I help you to say goodbye

Matt

I'm so sorry. I just recently lost my Dad 6 weeks ago and the pain is still fresh. Remember that the time you did have with your granny was a gift, and think about the good times. And it IS ok to cry, whenever, wherever.

Peace be with you...

What a wonderful gift you were blessed with for so many years!
Never forget that her spirit lives on with you and the legacy she seemingly left with all those she touched.
Blessings.

My heart goes out to you, Matt. The relationship between grandparents and grandchildren is so special... there's absolutely nothing like it... and losing them really hits us deeply. Sometimes even deeper than we'd expect.

You and your family will be in my thoughts, my friend, and I hope Lindsey is able to take you away for a couple of hours tomorrow night.

Matt...I am so sorry for your loss. I must say that the elderly are really incredible amazing people and I treasure their stories and many words of wisdom. You have a very special relationship with your grandmother and that must have filled both your hearts with so much joy. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

It's hard to lose a cherished family member. When you put it in the context of which ones you jive with the best, then you lose that person, it's really hard. I went thru that 4 years ago.

Going to a concert is a great thing to do. I went to one two weeks after my dad passed. It was the last thing I wanted to do at the time, but I was dragged. Ended up being the best thing. It was a long road trip which is good too, for blowing out the cobwebs that seem to come with grief. It was a Goo Goo Dolls concert and the lead singer smiled and waved at me during one of my favorite songs, right at the part where he sings "Angels fall without you here..." and that's how I felt because my dad was gone. That particular song, Black Balloon, had very special meaning to me also. It really lifted my spirits... well, temporarily.

I hope you really do go to the concert and I hope you have an uplifting moment too.

I'm really sorry to hear of your grandmother. Concerts are a great way to get through the grief for a few hours. Go and have fun.
