kenneth c. davis - don't know much about history

i realized the other day that despite having taken several history & gov't classes in high school, i'm pretty retarded when it comes to the specifics of u.s. history.

Got through reading Marianne Faithfull's autobiography and Ian Carr's bio of Miles Davis. Just got Dr. Andrew Weil's 8 Weeks to Optimum Health and William Faulkner's As I Lay Dying at the library today.

I am reading Kite Runner, which is one of the best reads in ages. But really sad and I can only handle a little bit at a time.

I really enjoyed that book. It was hard getting into it initially (I just thought it started kind of slowly) but once I did, I was hooked. And thankfully, it is on a list of books I have to review for my Diversity class. Which means, I can re-read it!

In addition to all of the heinous reading required for graduate school, I still find time for recreational reading (at night before I go to bed) and right now I'm reading A Prayer for Owen Meany, by John Irving. I'm on the last few pages and I can honestly say that it's one of the best books I've ever read. I highly recommend it.

currently reading rohinton mistry's "family matters." it's okay. not nearly as good as "a fine balance."

I've been wanting to read Marley and Me - I hear it's a MUST for dog lovers.

And The Devil Wears Prada. That book INFURIATED me. But I enjoyed it, it was much more effective than the movie. Enjoy.

American Theocracy by Kevin Phillips (the perils and politics of radical religion, oil, and borrowed money in the 21st century)

next is Failed States by Noam Chomsky. (the abuse of power and the assault on democracy)
