Springsteen's last hurrah was in 1984.

REM's last hurrah was in 1990.

Tom Petty and Tina Turner haven't been in the limelight in a long time.

Blondie's last deal was 1979.

Oy.
Turn up your Miracle-Ear, Myrtle! Aerosmith, Blondie, Springsteen, REM and Tom Petty are all still recording... the latter four getting some of the best reviews of their careers.
Tina Turner is "semi-retired," but is also working on an album of new material.

If we're going to equate "oldies act" with the last time an artist had a big chart hit, then the aforementioned should all just pack it in and hang out at the retirement home with Eddie Money and Tiffany.

In fact, that was exactly ONE solo song, and even that song is one Fleetwood Mac uses in its tours when she's with them!
Stevie was performing on the Today Show to help raise money for Hurricane Katrina victims. Fans are utterly deluded if they expected... or even hoped... she'd do something new or rare. She wasn't there to debut new songs or dust off some obscure b-side, she was there to entertain the workers and volunteers with songs they know. It was meant to be "comfort food" for the ears. Nothing more, nothing less.

Question

What's to cry about? The re-release of what we already have?
If Stevie wanted to knocksocks she would release new material.

And you are absolutely deluded if you think Stevie is anything but an oldies act.

Are you a real Stevie Nicks fan or are you just pretending to be one?

Jesus christ!!! You know she isnt recording??? Would you rather have her wither away and die? How can you even call yourself a fan. I still watch the today show performance of Stand Back because it rocks. In 10 years when she is retired you are gunna be going **** why did i BITCH and MOAN so much when she was still somewhat active.

How does calling Stevie an oldies act render one not a fan ?

I don't have an opinion on that either way...I do however, refuse to admit I'm a die-hard fan of an "oldies act"

I don't place particular meaning on the phrase, really.

I'd only be deluded if I thought it even really mattered.

I have a bit of a pet peeve with it. Growing up and to this day my dad only listens to "oldies" radio stations (50's and 60's music) and I can't stand it so it's just wrong for me to tell myself I'm a fan of oldies music. Stevie is far from my definition of oldies but to each is own.

Ha! Maybe someone needs to start a new poll, "Do you consider Stevie to be an oldies act?"

This whole discussion is pointless. La Nicks has been singing as a star since like 1974-75. Of course she must include somne of those hits in her repetoire and she does. Does that make her an odlies act? Not in my opinion. I base this on the Gold Dust Tour where she included Circle Dance and Rock and Roll in the set. Those are not her songs and she never did them before. So, in a tour with no record to support, she sang two different things she never sang before (not to mention SYWBARRS with Don H. ) -- So, the facts suggest that while she has over 30 years of material to chose from, she adds different songs to each tour set and those songs are not her hits and/or even her material.

But, people will call her what they want no matter the facts. So be it.
