No problem in finding out early. I expected to in opening the thread. In a way I am surprised Lukas was picked. I thought he may be earlier on, but then Toby seemed to pull forward. Based on the reported plans of the band (one tour/album) they probably chose who they were most comfortable with and who they thought would pull some seats. Don't they have to cease with "supernova" afterall? I don't plan on seeing them or purchasing an album. I wonder what's new with JD/INXS.

My digital cable locked up and the DVR box rebooted itself. I missed Magni getting the boot.
I loved what Dilana did with Stevie's old OSOTM dress. ![]() |

I was on a plane and just watched both shows on Tivo.
I'm very disappointed in the choice. If they weren't going to go with Dilana, then I would have preferred Toby. I think he wanted it the most and would have gotten way more hot babes backstage for the guys. Lukas didn't have that much of a reaction when he was chosen. I remember JD fell to the ground and cried. And, sorry, making your decision based on the person who got the most votes just shows that these guys aren't really out to do anything that rake in some cash next year. I wish they had said something like "you're both perfect, but Lukas really nailed the Supernova song a couple of weeks ago, he gets the edge". Dilana's Roxanne was incredible this week. Another memorable performance from the most talented person of that show. I might go to the Supernova concert to see her with the house band and then leave. Although she didn't seem very excited about doing that gig. She was extremely disappointed. Anyway, great show! Whatever will we do until next July? |

Lukas lands Rock Star gig
By BRUCE WESTBROOK Copyright 2006 Houston Chronicle Houston's Dilana Robichaux rocked to the end of Rock Star: Supernova Wednesday night, but finished second to Canada's Lukas Rossi. After 12 weeks of rafter-rattling performances on CBS, the intense, flamboyant Rossi will front newly formed rock band Supernova. Its guitarist, Gilby Clarke, promised Dilana to help write and produce her own CD, and show host Dave Navarro pledged to play on it "if you'll have me." Dilana then replied, "This is a promise: that I will bring out a CD with Gilby and Dave's help, and it's gonna kick some serious ass." ADVERTISEMENT Finishing third was Australian Toby Rand, with Iceland's Magni Asgeirsson fourth. "You're our boy," Supernova drummer Tommy Lee said in naming Rossi lead singer. Rossie is the second Canadian to win Rock Star's talent search -- in its second season. Canadian J.D. Fortune became lead singer of INXS after 2005 's debut edition. Dilana, 34, is South African by birth and has sung since her teens, including six years in Holland. She moved to Houston four and a half years ago and struggled to establish herself while performing at clubs and at Prime Time Steak House, where fans have held Rock Star watch parties. After sending in a tape and auditioning in Austin and L.A., Dilana became one of 15 singers chosen from 20,000 applicants for this year's Rock Star, produced by reality-TV magnate Mark Burnett of Survivor. Rising to the top 10 in ratings for the 18-49 age demographic, Rock Star inspired heated debate among fans as to which singer would best serve a vaguely defined band. Just being on the show was "a dream come true,'' Dilana told the Chronicle, since it was her biggest exposure ever. She also saw Rock Star as her last chance to hit the big time and actively lobbied with the band to hire her, even apart from impressing them on stage. Based on band comments, viewer votes and her own powerhouse performances, Dilana was Rock Star's presumed frontrunner for weeks. Her fierce, frenetic Lithium on its July 5 premiere set the series' early tone of hard-charging rock intensity. Wannabes and posers were quickly banished, while others survived by playing into her vehement vibe. Yet Dilana also showed a wide range of rock chops. She gave Johnny Cash's Ring of Fire an eerie Middle Eastern flair, fiercely attacked the cranberries' Zombie and galvanized Harry Chapin's mild Cat's in the Cradle with raspy ferocity. Her voice often shifted between rough, Joplinesque wails and dreamy, Stevie Nicks-style fervency, while showing little range in between. But her flamboyant showmanship and assured stage presence were consistently impressive. In recent weeks Dilana's stock had dropped through the kind of reality-show "drama'' more suited to shows like Survivor than a talent contest. Her criticism of colleagues and subsequent emotionalism stalled her impetus, and only this week did she seem fully recovered, with superb performances on both nights' shows. No matter what, she finished strongly. As winner of Rock Star: Supernova, Rossi will record an album with the band, due Nov. 21 on the Epic label. He then will lead Supernova starting with its debut show New Year's Eve in Las Vegas, followed by a 27-date tour in January and February. The tour's opening act will be Rock Star's formidable House Band fronted by singers who didn't get the gig, including Storm Large and Magni. Many fans have theorized that singers who weren't hired may be better off, given their enormous exposure on the show -- which airs in eight countries --and the questionable clout of Supernova. The band's core members have been in prominent hard-rock groups: drummer Lee in Motley Crue, bassist Newsted in Metallica and guitarist Clarke in Guns 'N Roses. But as middle-aged headbangers with no repertoire apart from thin songs trotted out on Rock Star, Supernova isn't the plum prize of last year's Rock Star: INXS. Dilana has indicated she wants to return to Houston after three months with Rock Star in Los Angeles. She has a boyfriend here and considers Houston her home. "But my true home is the stage,'' she told the Chronicle. "That's where everything comes out." |

I'm taking a trip to Houston next year to see Dilana at the Prime Time Steak House.
I thought this article captured everything quite well, namely that this is a phony band and not winning could be better than winning. |

Lukas Rossi Wins Rock Star: Supernova THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 14, 2006 10:55AM EST By Cynthia Wang Lukas Rossi, a 29-year-old punk rocker from Toronto, won the role of lead singer for the band Supernova on the CBS reality show Rock Star: Supernova on Wednesday. After closely beating out rival Dilana Robichaux, a transplanted South African now living in Houston, Rossi told PEOPLE, "At the end of the day, it's about what the band needs and wants, and I would happily step aside if it was for the betterment of Supernova. "But," he continued, "they chose me, and it was a good choice, man, because I'm going to give it my all and I'm sure the boys in the band are going to do the same thing. We just want to write a bunch of great records and tour for the fans." Rossi follows in the footsteps of fellow Canadian J.D. Fortune, who won last year's show and now sings with Australia's INXS. Besides Robichaux, the other finalists this season were Magni Asgeirsson, from Iceland, and Toby Rand, from Australia. But it was Rossi who impressed Supernova drummer Tommy Lee and bandmates Gilby Clarke and Jason Newsted with his rendition of the Verve's "Bittersweet Symphony." After Lee announced his victory, Rossie joined the band onstage for two Supernova songs, including "Be Yourself." Rossi told PEOPLE that the initial performance brought "an absolute feeling of relief. Going through this 13-week audition process has been riveting, to say the least, but I'm here standing now and I guess I was the cat they wanted." Comparing himself to others in his new band, Rossi said, "Tommy is just like myself. You know, we're just human and nothing has changed him through the success that he's had. He's still humble and a loveable guy and he's like a big brother to me." Lee, in fact, has offered Rossi the use of his home when the drummer heads off soon to tour with Mötley Crüe. Will he accept the invitation? "I don't know about that!" Rossi said. "No, I'll definitely respect his house … for the first two hours. Ha! I love you, T!" Rossi plans to do a bit of traveling himself as well: "I am going back to Canada soon. I just have a lot of things that I have to do here first." Also on his calendar: rushing into the recording studio with Supernova to complete the band's debut album, due from Epic Records on Nov. 21. And on Dec. 31, the band will have its first live performance in Las Vegas, kicking off a five-week North American tour. |
