college, I lived off campus...And I was lucky to have 1 package of Top Ramen. However, I lived in a hotel room for 1.5 years so I had cable/phone/swimming pool/A.C. so I cant complain (Rent was $225 a month, which was very reasonable-I had no roommates which was a bonus!!! Worked 40 hours a week, attended school 40 hours a week, such fun in those days!)

There was no iPods, laptops, etc back in 1988.

^^^That's my story, except the owner didn't want to pay the insurance on the pool, so it had been bulldozed in. And my "hotel"(room) rent was $170/month. I worked at a convenience store, and sneaked the expired, throwaway sandwiches home, so I always had food. TOO many sandwiches!

Right? People should have to WORK...it builds character.

I lived in dorms my freshman year, but had a job and paid for everything - my mom didn't pay for SQUAT. Nothing - it was all me - and all my friends worked - and we were all po'.

Wow. There's been a conversation going on while I was actually busy. Too bad I can't participate in the conversation, because I've never been a starved, or a spoiled, college student!

Yeah - it is....and actually I've a couple of cousins who fall into the spoiled category. Designer clothes, amazing apartments, motorcycles etc....and one just went to Puerto Vallarta, another to Texas somewhere - all on daddy's dime.

Now did I mention that my uncle is stupid enough to be in MAJOR debt just to keep up his daughter's lifestyles - it's disgusting but they've got him so wrapped around their fingers.

Your uncle's an idiot. Sorry but that's ludicrous.

Blah Blah Blah - I went to college and my dad paid for my tuition and I worked for him though I did not have to. I also took little jobs here and there for extra money. But, I knew many people who did not work and were great people and vice vera.

I truly believe people of all walks of life can be a$$holes and having money has nothing to do with it. For example, I think living in the bowels of Harlem would make for some bad neighbors

You're right, there isn't anything wrong with parents helping out their kids. I don't think we were generalizing about rich people, just the jerky ones.

I'm not saying that spoiled college brats are the only sourse of asshole neighbors.

Yes, plenty of ****ty neighbors can be found everywhere - and college and money has nothing to do with it. STILL there is a HUGE corelation between spoiled college kids and noise and bad behaviour. Of course - poor college kids can be just as bad. But if you can't afford the loud blowout your neighbor speakers, you're less likely to piss them off with loud thumpy music.

Now - also not everyone who gets their college paid for is an asshole - my ex boyfriend's parent paid his rent and school and actually would NOT let him work through college - but he's a wonderful person - of course he wasn't really spoiled with all sorts of worldly goods - but anyway...

whatever...I STILL don't like spoiled college kids.

No, you had it right the first time

And since his daughters have been spoiled their whole lives they don't care that he has to go into bankruptcy to support their lifestyle. So see? Spoiled and uncaring and selfish little girls....jerks.

Wow - you guys are getting a nice window into my family this week
