Exclamation I couldnt tell you...

what is considered crap or not, I havent listened to radio in years...Except for 2 hours a Saturday night ("Headbanger's Ball") I don't watch ANY music related television. If I dont like a specific genre of music I just ignore it if possible, I'm sure someone will find something positive in a genre I might not care for and vice versa.

Nothing I listen to will be up winning popularity awards or be the musical basis for a 'reality TV music/talent show', nothing I listen to will be shown on late night talk-shows or become the entertainment for a Super Bowl (Btw, This coming Super Bowl's entertainment is Prince, who I do like.), nothing I listen will be followed by most here on the Ledge...and that is fine by me. To each their own.

As for the sound quality of CD vs. LP/Tape/etc., I prefer the alternatives to CD-I guess being around when CD's werent the main media has something to do with my opinion/musical media preference.

But I thought it was funny that no one read that right, and did actually think he was talking about musicians, and not sound quality. And I think it's funny that even though several people in the thread pointed that out, people still keep "arguing" with Bob about the music quality.

As a side note, I have to say I'm not real happy about the Bob bashing. I share Stevie's awe of The Bob.
I think there are a lot of innovative and amazing musicians out there still, some are definitely in the mainstream but probably most take a little more effort seeking out.
I totally love Bob Dylan btw, didn't you see my earlier post where I called him one of the greatest singers of all-time? He'll always be cool to me even though he's got a rather creepy pencil thin moustache at the moment

I know you love Bob. Coincidentally, my dad has a lame new mustache, too.

Anyway, who are these people who are in the mainstream and do unusual, talented, and varied songs on their instruments? With singers, of course. I'm not talking about people who just play instruments. But you like all kinds of music that doesn't grab me at all. So, I dunno.

I don't know, people like Ashlee & Jessica Simpson, J-Lo, Hilary Duff, Lindsay Lohan... artists like that.

And I know my music tastes don't grab you. The fact you've remained so quiet about that compilation CD I made you says it all Don't worry I'm not offended. I have people screwing up their noses at me every day at work at my music taste

Oh, you might be either more or less offended when I tell you....I haven't listened to it.
Did you put songs you thought I might like, or songs you just like?
Maybe I'll listen tonight. I've felt I shouldn't open any of that until I make you your thing. Course, god knows when that will happen...
Oh, and thanks for the heads up on the great music players. Shyeah.

In your opinion. In mine, they have not had a decent song since "One Tree Hill" off the "Joshua Tree" album

I don't blame you - they are extremely overrated. But I do admit that "Joshua Tree" is a really awesome album

I've never been able to get into U2..and I've tried - they just don't do it for me. Dylan...I totally don't get the hype - I don't like him...I know, Stevie would smack me...but the man can't sing and his lyrics just don't do a thing for me

BUT I do agree that in terms of overall sound a lot has been lacking in the last 20 years or so. I think a lot of it, at least in my opinion, is a departure from music and musicians and the use of computers, synths and drum machines...those things aren't and will never be as good as the real thing.

I don't think Bob is a great singer at all - that is not where his strengths lie. His lyrics are amazing, and have clearly influenced damn near every decent musician within that last 40 years. His songs like "Positively Fourth Street" and "Just Like A Woman" are incredible, so if you don't like his voice, check out other artists who sing Bob's songs - like The Pretenders version of "Forever Young" - incredible

Yeah - I don't mind some of his songs by other artists - and I actually really like Stevie's version of Just Like a Woman.

I know they have influenced many...I guess my BOb Dylan dislike is like the folks who dislike the Beatles..I can't deny his MASSIVE influence - I just don't like him

True dat. I don't really care for the Beatles much myself - I can see their influence, but I just wouldn't purposely listen to them
