Default Tiger Woods

So I watched the final round of the PGA Championship yesterday. This guy was at the absolute top of his game, and no one touched him, as he won by 5. I have come to the realization that I believe TIger is the best athlete I have ever witnessed, in any sport. Let's just take a look at golf. Jack Nicklaus, the all-time leader in major championship victories with 18, did that in a span of 25 years. Tiger achieved his 12th major victory yesterday in only his 10th!Especially after the death of his father this year, to see the manner in which he's won both the British Open and the PGA, not even letting any semblace of a challenge enter into the picture, leaves me in awe. My personal favorite golfer is Phil Mickelson, and I was thrilled to see him win his first major at the Masters in 2004 after having tried for so long. Fast forward to 2006, and Phil had won both the 2005 PGA Championship and 2006 Masters for back to back major victories. I'm thinking that he might finally be on a par with Tiger. Forget it. Phil is a great golfer, but no one now or I'm not sure ever, will approach this guy's greatness.

Yes, he's right up there. I mean we're all subjective about our own favorites.

I'll say this, perhaps wording it a bit differently. Tiger is the best, in my personal opinion, hows that? You are free to disagree with me my dear.

I watched the PGA too. He is just too good. He's not my favorite player, but you have to respect him. I'm not sure I'd put him ahead of Nicklaus just yet. When he breaks Nicklaus' record for most majors, then I'd do it. At the rate he's going, he'll probably break the record in a few years, assuming he stays healthy. I do think that Nicklaus had tougher competition when he was in his prime than Tiger does now, although that's certainly not Tiger's fault.

There are some that would say golf is not considered a sport. It's a bunch of men in fugly pants chasing a little white ball.

yes, a "good walk RUINED!" as they say!

btw: It will be interesting to see who comes out on top at Medinah (sp?) Apparently a lot of air time is being devoted to the rivalry between Woods and Mickleson...

It might be a British / American thing, but I think if you described a golfer as an athlete in the UK, you'd be laughed at. Athletes are demonstrators of physical prowess, whereas golf requires much skill but no great stamina or brute strength. I think most people here would say golf is a game, not a sport.

Arguably our mysterious cricket phenomenon is also a game, not a sport. I might rank being a great golfer up with being a great marksman perhaps - great skill, but is it a sport?

Anyway, even though putters and tees are not my thing, clearly Tiger Woods is one of the greatest exponents in the history of golf, if not the greatest.
