No seriously. How come you don't like that one? I think the lyrics are Zevonesque in their level of corrosive facetiousness: as I listen to the song, my Irony-Meter swings all the way over to the red. Think of the clever subversion of expectation in a line like: "I can come right out and think just what I say." And the refrain--"Everyone's gone to the moon"--is as savvy a pronouncement of smirking at the headholders as anything in Randy Newman's catalog.

Musically, it's a deft chord progression, alternating major & minor in the old ballade style, that resembles the approach on "Steal Your Heart Away," & gives the stance a very subtle emotional core. The lead & backup vocals are well recorded & even inventively arranged. I think the track has true panache. To me, it's classic Fleetwood Mac (even though we haven't figured out just what "classic Fleetwood Mac" is on the rumours ledge).

It's a blunt arrow IMO. His irony doesn't bite in this case, it's subtle emotional potential drowns in the too clever melody. There's all his reserch to perfect form that sometimes brings him to an annoying academism. The text works, the music works, but not together, I think.

What the heck? The song is a compact overly mac-character, hooky poprocksong with Monday Morning-quality. How can one not like it?

Most of these songs don't matter to me in terms of who likes what. But a small few of them--like this one--do. If people don't like it, I want to hear why.

So just for replying, I'm going to post some Milstein playing heavenly Bach for you. But first I must upload it.

That whole debate about how much new stuff is too much is a debate that's raged through the rock circles, not just with Stevie. I interviewed Tommy Clufetos (the drummer for Rob Zombie), and he immediately agreed with me that it IS a subject for debate.

Normally, I might sprinkle in a few new songs in among the familiar hits, but the way my job at the newspaper has been going, if those were "songs" or "albums," I'd probably be using mostly the newer stuff because I'm very proud of the work I've been doing of late.

Absolutely. I sang "Destiny Rules" a cappella at a karaoke night and got a HUGE reaction to it. It also should have been released for karaoke.

If I could get away with it, I'd do "Fall From Grace" segued into "Destiny Rules," ala the "Outside The Rain"-"Dreams" seque.

Default re:thrown down at Mc d's

I'm so glad you pointed out that part in Thrown Down...'you have nothing left to say" . That's such a key part of the song....
Like in Destiny Rules....."the coastal line in glittering...like a diamond snake in a black sky"....it just gives me the chills sometimes....or "sometimes I walk by and I look up to your balcony just to make sure that you were real...just to make sure that I can still feel you"....that's pretty deep thinking on her part.

I had forgotten about this old thread. Wow, we were talking about this over a year ago. I've heard Thrown Down in the grocery store, but not McDonalds.

No official Thrown Down remix. But the TISL outtake (Wall of Sound) had so much production on it that it could have been a remix.

lindsey's work on thrown down is exceptional
i think it's one of his best absolutely
especially when you compare the TISL version with the SYW version

awesome awesome song!
