Sounds like a plan Now if only I could find an extra $2000 dollars for the plane tickets

I went to work this afternoon and picked up a further 3 Flaming Lips albums: At War with the Mystics, The Soft Bulletin and Ego Tripping at the Gates of Hell - so I will give those a good listening to, and let you know what I think

So far I have listened to half of 'At War with the Mystics' and half of 'The Soft Bulletin' - I have only had the time to listen to them in the car on the way to class, but I promise to listen to them by Sunday

Some of those tracks on "At War..." are not to good - the first and second tracks made me almost cringe But maybe they just take some getting used to....

Yeah, a lot of people are disappointed by AWWTM. I kinda like the first song though, it does grow on you and it's awesome live. The WAND is really cool too. That's nearer the end of the album.
The Soft Bulletin, now that's a kick-ass album. Let me know what you think!

Sharon, that vid you posted made me laugh
anyway, I LOVE their last album, but it's the first thing of them I know. So I didn't have anything to compare it to, yet.
Only just got to know The Soft Bulletin as well, quite different, isn't it? Very good though! Hope to catch them live some day.

Mari, have I told you lately that you ROCK!
I thought that video was a pretty funny take-off of the Bob Dylan video too.

Anyway, yeah the new album is pretty different to The Soft Bulletin and then that's quite a bit different to their grunge-era stuff. And then there's their really weird, out-there 80s stuff. They're a band that have certainly changed a lot over the years, that's for sure.

I can post some MP3s if you want to hear some of their other stuff.
Let me know.

Okay, I think I went a little crazy and I don't know if anyone will be bothered enough to download them all but I think they're all pretty cool so I'll put up all the links.

Here's some recent stuff for Gerald.

Firstly, my favourite song off At War With The Mystics, The W.A.N.D.:

This is a recent b-side called The Gold In The Mountain Of Our Madness. It's absolutely fantastic, I can't understand how it didn't end up on the album:

And this is a very different, very beautiful piano version of their recent hit The Yeah Yeah Yeah Song:

Earlier stuff:

Now this is cool. This is a very rare stereo mix of the first song on their experimental album Zaireeka. If you don't know about it, well it was released as four CDs which you had to play on four separate stereos and try to synch up somehow to get the full experience. Pretentious? Probably. Awesome? Definitely! It's called Okay, I'll Admit That I Really Don't Understand:

Finally two earlier pop songs they did from their breakthrough album Transmissions From The Satellite Heart from 1993, Turn It On and their 'novelty' hit She Don't Use Jelly, and one from Clouds Taste Metallic from 1995, which is a little nearer to their current sound.

Turn It On:

She Don't Use Jelly:

Placebo Headwound:

I was going to upload their version of Black Sabbath's War Pigs but I stopped myself, as probably no one is going to download these. Sorry, I did get rather carried away. If you do download I hope you like them, let me know!

Edit: downloads removed. BUY all Flaming Lips' albums now!

No I didn't download them at all and I'm not gonna burn these to a CD to listen in the car at all, So I don't need a suggestion for the tracklist at all.

PUT THE FOCKING OZZYCOVER UP!!!!!!!!

oh...thanks sharon

Here's the cover of War Pigs for Gerald

http://www.sendspace.com/file/rn52q0

My suggestion for a tracklist would be pretty much in the order I posted them from most recent to the oldest track (starting with The WAND and ending with Unconsciously Screamin')

These were in the original post but I've just moved them here so not to overwhelm: two songs from when Jonathan Donahue was in the band. He left and formed Mercury Rev, another great band. Unconsciously Screamin' from 1989's In A Priest Driven Ambulance (one of Greg Dulli's all-time favourite albums apparently) and Hit Me Like You Did The First Time from Hit To Death In The Future Head from 1991:

Burning! This is what I did, sharon...

1. The W.A.N.D.:
2. The Gold In The Mountain Of Our Madness
3. The Yeah Yeah Yeah Song
4. Okay, I'll Admit That I Really Don't Understand
5. Turn It On
6. She Don't Use Jelly
7. Placebo Headwound
8. Pilot can at the queer of god
9. War Pigs
10. Hit Me Like You Did The First Time
11. Unconsciously Screamin'

Of course I knew the brilliant "jelly". I'm freakin'out totally On Turn it on. What a masterpiece popsong. Sounds familiar. I'll check my cd-collection.

I knew it!

Seems like already fell for them 13 years ago: I found the jelly single-cd in my collection-totally forgotten, and guess what's there?

Do you know this version?
