One of these days I'll get around to cataloging all the demo's I have, I think I have around 25 hours of demos. Then I'll add it to whatever else is out there and publish it here. Meanwhile, can anyone tell me the name of this song that goes with this lyric of SN? "And tomorrow I will be on my way, you're not with me now, but you've never gone away...She's a child, and she knows it, but she really wants to change, oh my darling I have hurt you, but I am hurting too...". I'll transcribe the rest when I can find the copy of this song (packed away in the garage somewhere) :-))

1) Julia--I had a wretched copy of this song for about 15 years and never knew what it was until recently! It's just such a cool song! And have we come to a decision on "I would cry to the moon" or "I would try to be moved" or any other possibilities???

2) The Dealer--I just can't get enough of this song! I'm partial to take 11 and the demo. I just love the vocal!

3) Silver Springs--This one is just her and a piano. I always said this is one of the saddest songs ever written, and this version is just heart wrenching. Something about the simplicity of it, you can just see her alone in a room with the piano just pouring her heart out. It just works for the song.

4) Lady From the Mountain--Well, who couldn't use a dreamer on their side? Did she call out, please save me. I just like these lyrics!

5) Cathouse Blues, Belle Flower, Leather & Lace w/Don, Baby Doll

Of course these change weekly...I know you guys understand

My favorite is "All the King's Horses" with drums, bass, electric guitar & that piano with the funky delay. I could listen to that one all day long.

I also like the beautiful, beautiful vocal on "The Highwayman" demo. Both Stevie & Don do some of their best-ever singing on that one. Then you listen to it on the album, & you think, "What the hell happened?"

I tend to get tired of the demos over time -- same as I do with the albums. Listening to those demos is like working out: you've gotta keep pumping, even if you're in pain. Just make sure you replenish your water loss.

Hmm. Don't know if it ever leaked out, I have a copy from the 10" original reel made in the studio recorded onto DAT (digital audio tape) from the days b4 CD recorders, along with other B/N stuff. However, as I am in transition right now (moving to a new state) I don't have access to it at the moment. It might take a while, until I get moved, but I can post at least a piece of it as an attachment on here so people can hear it. If you'll have patience, it may be a couple or three months until I get moved. Then I'll be able to do something. Until then, I can tell Y'all stories about what I was up to with FM.

Well, I have several... but I'll try to keep the list short.

1: "She Loves Him Still" ("No one heard her call his name... no one heard a sound she made.... they wouldn't have liked it much anyway, to know that she still loves him...." This song gets me every time.)

2: "Julia" ("When I run thru your door... I am free from my slavery...." Stevie can do so much with the combination of vivid imagery and her voice. I really think that anyone who's ever experienced really deep love, or heartbreak, can relate to her songs... if they care to *experience* the songs, and not just listen to them. "Julia" is also a good example of another thing I love about Stevie's writing... the lyrics are deeply romantic, while reflecting a sense of loss and vulnerability... but they never venture into "victim" territory.)

3: "If You Were My Love" ("I have reached the number of someone that can tell me... if you were my love...." I think Fleetwood Mac missed the boat when they didn't complete and release this one. Perhaps they'll still redeem themselves and record it for the new album... but I suppose it's more likely "Smile At You" will be on the next album, since its copyright was renewed when Stevie was working on Trouble In Shangri-La.)

4: "Without You" ("Well, I never even dreamed that I'd know you...." Wonderful harmonies from Stevie & Lindsey, and some very simple, but affecting lyrics. Gotta love it.)

5: "Thrown Down" ("He held her hands... she listened to what he had to say...." Another one whose lyrics are seemingly simple... yet they convey so much. I'll be disappointed if The Mac doesn't include this one on the upcoming album.)

6: "Not Make Believe" ("Sometimes it was heavenly... sometimes it was too heavy...." I don't know what to say about this one, other than that I love it.)


I know it's awful, but I'm so happy that so many of Stevie's unreleased songs have made their way to "the outside."
It's a great shame that so many of these would have gone completely unheard.

I didn't know what I was getting into back in 1982 when a friend of mine who was a record collector talked me into starting a collection of Fleetwood Mac, my favorite group at that time. We were haunting all the stores around LA trying to find memorbilia for FM. Used to hang out at Rockaway Records (when they only had a warehouse in West LA). I remember the first thing I did was buy everything in sight on FM & SN. Spent thousands on every conceivable picture sleeve, LP and posters, whatnot. It really snowballed one day when I saw an ad for a new hair salon in the Valley "The Wild Heart" Hair Salon.

My top 5 faves are, in no particular order (except COH, which is my favorite of all time):

City of Hope: This is so beautiful and moving, so emotional..."And NOTHING will ever hurt me like this again- and you know in that very statement, you give it up, just a little bit - your child-like angel." Sniff. Seriously, I LOVE it, especially that part.

Watchdevil: Not the version with the clapping at the beginning, but the other version. So bluesy and catchy. "Lovely, soft, faded jeans - a very soft shirt in a little blue." Sounds nice. I can think of someone who'd look very hot in that. ;-)

Smile At You: Everybody knows this one rocks! And while I love the angry version's "BUT THAT THE HEART WAS BROKEN" I love the guitar at the end of the slow version, too, so both are great with me.

She Loves Him Still: Like "City of Hope", incredibly moving. "Not even he himself can change this - she loves him still." Wow.

Without You: This is just so beautiful and pure, such love in their voices: "You are song for me, a melody ingrained in my soul." Such a perfect song for their love story back in the day.

But honorable mentions go to:

The Tragedy of One's Own Soul, Love Don't Fail Me Now, Old-Fashioned, Running Through the Garden, and Sanctuary.
