I appreciate everyones a little dubious about this list of titles - myself included.

Lindsey does tend to copy himself though:

* Dreams is also on out of the cradle as 'Street of Dreams'.

* 'Someone's Gotta Change Your Mind' was mentioned in shuffle riff.

* There's 'play in the rain' on go insane and 'surrender the rain' on out of the cradle.

* He even rips off a large section of lyrics from 'You do or you don't' and lobs it in 'bleed to love her'

I agree about being a bit short for a CD album. The LP's were restricted to 45 minutes, so you would expect something about the length of Out of the cradle!?

11 songs on a record that is a unity is fine for me. Alot of albums are just too long in my opinion. (how many ledgies dissed SYW for being too long? Stop being so opportune)

Shut us down was given for the movie and Back then I clearly have read that it was from his forthcoming soloalbum. I am pleased to see it on the tracklist and I'm curious how it fits in a concept. The fact that a gem like SGCYM is on an official release is more than logic: If the theme of the record is interpreted well by the lucky owner of this copy, it fits perfectly. By the way, I really want to hear a good quality recording of that anthem. DOR is the most wanted song by ledgies from GOS. He clearly recognized that himself. I'm personally not so fond of Try for the sun and I am waiting has never been released, only in a liveversion.

I'm sure we will find some GOStracks on his next one: they were just too damn good.

No, it was 12 or 13 songs. 13 if you count "This Nearly Was Mine" which is roughly 90 seconds long. Three of the 16 were short introductions which I'm sure most of us wouldn't count as songs.

OOTC clocks in at 48:42 on my CD player which is still within the normal lengths for a vinyl album. There was a vinyl issue of OOTC outside of USA with none of the music omitted. And it was possible to put out a vinyl album with 50-60 minutes of music on it even back in the old days (check out Genesis' Foxtrot or Selling England By The Pound, or Todd Rundgren's A Wizard/A True Star). If Lindsey had wanted to do an hour long album on one piece of vinyl in the '70s or '80s he would have done it.

We don't know how long these tracks on the album are going to be, so we don't know how long the album itself will be. Going by the average song length on SYW (four minutes) I'd say that Under The Skin will be well over 40 minutes but probably slightly shorter than OOTC. Unless Lindsey has gone all "D. W. Suite" on our asses once again.

I'm not really too considered about the length of the album. Some of my favourite albums like Nick Drake's Pink Moon or Francis Albert Sinatra And Antonio Carlos Jobim are less than half an hour long. Yet there's nothing that I could ever imagine adding to those, they're short and sweet perfection as they are.

Maybe Lindsey actually took some hint from the critics of SYW, most of who wrote that the CD was way too long. And according to what we've read he stripped down his songs so most of the fans get what they want too. Is the old man catering down to our tastes?

If the album is cohesive like this, it'll be good. The only thing that bothers me is the amount of "new" (meaning "new to us") songs. I agree with Stefan that the electric CD won't probably happen at all. So in that case maybe an album with the length of SYW consisting mostly of songs we haven't heard before would've been better anyway.

I am not looking for a collection of 16 loose songs. I want an album that lives on it's own, where the tracks need eachother and hang together. I want quality, not quantity. Believe me I've waited just as long as you for this but nonetheless, the remark 11 songs in 14 years is bull to my ears.

And that electric one is ready. I'm sure.

Personally I'm more interested in the (likely) musical self-quotations this time around. Will we get another piece in the "Big Love" > "Doing What You Can" > "Big Love" (acoustic) > "Miranda" continuum? How about another guitar solo in the vein of "I'm So Afraid"/"Tango In The Night"/"Murrow"? Not that it bothers me much, because so far the atmospheres on those "recycled" tracks have differed notably to me and that's what matters to me the most.

I can't even imagine the "acidpissing" (good term that, Gerald) when we actually hear the music on the album. But maybe at least I should hear it before I start speculating any further.

I agree with you, Gaius. But Don't stop speculating. I've tried to survive as a ledgie all this time and now that we can use our fantasy in interesting times I don't want you to bite your tongue. But let's use our fantasy to provide some nice foreplay so our boners will be gigantic on october 3rd. I don't want to read Ï'm dissappointed because there are just 11 tracks. We waited so long, I just don't understand that this tracklist only can put people down. Nor the fact that His masterful Shut Us down is on this record is considered copying from yourself. It was written for this album, not for that boring movie.

At least we're facing the best albumtitle in FM-related releases since decades.

i'm glad he's putting Shut Us Down on this one.
That Cameron Crowe movie unfortunately is bound for the obscure shelves - so it will be nice for the masses to check out this track.

I agree! Except that Under the skin will not find the masses. A lindsey-record is MADE for the obscure shelves. It's never been different, and I'm totally OK with that.

I'm probably going to get crucified for this, but if "I Am Waiting" is indeed on 'Under The Skin,' I hope that Stevie's backing vocals are still in the mix. They were so pretty, and since they're rather unobtrusive, hopefully Buckheads wouldn't complain too much about her presence.

It's a track that was scrapped from SYW. We heard a snippet of it with Stevie doing vocals on the Destiny Rules documentary and a live version of it sans Stevie on Lindsey's SoundStage DVD.

Oh thats right - I could hear Stevie singing "I Am Waiting" in my head, but couldn't figure out where it was from.

Is it really on SoundStage? I didn't even realise - I may have to watch it again....
