..that Britain is in a mess! How ridiculous!! This article from AOL news:
A Suffolk hospital has been fined for treating too many patients - in the process losing nearly £2.5million for breaching its contract of care. Ipswich Hospital NHS Trust reduced its waiting list target for patients to just a week in one department, the Daily Telegraph reported. But it was too fast for East Suffolk Primary Care Trusts (PCTs), which provide funding for patient care, as it had introduced a minimum wait of at least 122 days to manage demand. The PCTs refused to pay the £2.5million it cost to treat the Suffolk patients, which meant the hospital - £16.7million in the red this year - had to fund the care itself. Somebody does some good and look what happens! Stupid ![]()

What was the reason they didn't pay, besides violating the patient wait time? Do they not have enough money to give funds that fast?

it had something to do with the PCT stating they wanted a waiting time of 122 days only (which was a reduced figure from whatever it was before..weeks/months) and they (the hospital) violated it by doing it quicker in less time so they didn't qualify for funds.I'll have to see if I can find the article and post the rest. I did chop it up shorter.

oh rats , I can't find the article any more! I don't really remember understanding why, they (the hospital) were left to fund the cost themselves, guess not having the money to hand (the trust) was the answer.Whatever the reason, it did make me shake my head.Surely a lesser waiting time for help is better than waiting forever...strange country England when it comes to important things...miles of red tape to sort through first...

Interesting, you've got the public system in Britain that has limited resources and has to manage care by increasing wait times and the private system in U.S. that manages care by incentivizing treating as many patients in as little time as possible. Either way you get crappy care.
