I know that is pretty bad. It's like he's almost saying. "yeah it could have been mine or it could have been anybody's
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Why is that so bad ? If he wasn't sure, he wasn't sure.

In interviews I've read he always seems rather vague about the affair. 'It was an on/off thing' is how he described it - which is hardly a ringing endorsement of love and committment.

He would have been riding the Hotel California fame wave around this time and was probably dating several other women during the 'off times.'
Maybe Stevie was doing the same. So he genuinely couldn't be sure because Stevie couldn't be sure

I agree he shouldn't have just blabbed it to a magazine but that's a different point.

Well what's so bad about it is that he was implying Stevie said it was his baby, but he might not have taken her word for it. The inference being she was a total hobag and doing lots 'o men.

Despite how cool people look on Jerry Springer getting the results of a DNA test, it's a bad thing to not know for sure who your "baby daddy" is.

The way I read it he's saying she may or may not have been pregnant...to the best of his knowledge she may or may not have gotten pregnant and then had the abortion, etc.

I don't see at all how he's implying she was a slut or whatever, but some people want to believe the worst about Don, always.

He blew it on the fact that I had an abortion. He told a big magazine that, so it's like... Well, I guess I could write my story about me and Don now, because Don accidentally let the whole cat out of the bag to, like Vanity Fair or something. So, there are things that I could write about, but there are a lot of things that I couldn't. See, I would never have told that. I would never have told the world that. So, 92 phone calls from Don and 800 apologies later, but the fact is that that story is out now, but the story behind it isn't written. What really happened isn't written. So that is the story that everybody has to wait for. - Mary Turner, Off the Record, 1994
This quote totally confuses me...my interpretation is that she's saying what Don said is true, she did get pregnant by him but that he ****ed up by telling everybody and he didn't tell the whole story, there's more to it. What does she mean by "what really happened"? Either she got pregnant and had an abortion or she didn't....
Still, shame on him! Even he acknowledged he was wrong if he called her 92 times to apoligize. She could have been so bitter and totally bad mouthed him here but she didn't, she answered very diplomatically IMO. What a class act our girl is!

If he wasn't sure he shouldn't have said anything. Knowing that Stevie is a public figure and that she would probably have to answer to a ****load of questions and controversy after a quote like that he should have known better. It doesn't make him a bad person, I just think he used poor judgment at Stevie's expense.

I don't read it like that, I read it as he knew darn well she was pregnant by him and had an abortion but that he was just trying to tip-toe around it by saying "I believe to the best of my knowledge..." instead of outright declaring it so he wouldn't seem like a big mouth. Just like Stevie said, he let the cat out of the bag. That's perfectly clear to me.

I didn't see any implication of him calling her a slut...

I'm going to jump back in here and defend Don on this one. (Waves to Henley Fan ) The way he said it in the article, to me it sounds like he is being somewhat careful, even in making a statement he shouldn't have said. It is common PR skills that you don't speak for other people. He was part of that story and had a right, no matter how tacky it was to discuss it, but he still gave Stevie an out by saying, "I believe, to the best of my knowledge".

Stevie could have said, "I don't know what Don was smoking back then but his knowledge and my knowledge don't really jive" or whatever.

She does adore him. They are close friends, former lovers and they both continue to do stuff for each other. How many Arizona Heart Institute benefits has he missed? She does the Yellow Rose Gala for him and his wife in Dallas every few years. It is in her journals that she called him on 9/11 and he knew exactly the right words to say to her. She even thanked God for Don and her mother at the close of her journal that day.

Stevie hasn't been used and abused by anyone. She has picked her many wonderful and exciting lovers and enjoyed the wonderful highs and devastating lows that came with each person. The only person she has openly spoken unkind of is Lindsey. Why do people want to beat up on Don?

Patty

All your points are valid here and I don't mean to "beat up on Don". I just think it was in poor taste to tell the world she had an abortion and not really his place. If she wanted people to know she would have spoken about it herself prior to this and I think he should have respected her privacy even if he had a part.

I'm glad that they are still close friends to this day, I think that says a lot about who they both are as people.

If you have been around here long enough, you will find everything has
been beaten to death in previous threads. Every six months or so, it all
recirculates.

I think he knew darn well too she was pregnant, but was trying to be diplomatic as he spoke about it, as someone else said (waves back to Patty ). For whatever it's worth, Don totally hates this interview and lovingly refers to it as "that piece of crap."

I think you're totally misreading it, but we'll have to agree to disagree, I guess.

Exactly how long do you have to be a fan not to be considered a newbie? Is 27 years long enough?
